Every cycle is a thing of its own... it doesn't really matter what was the case in 1980s. USD/JPY was trading at 300, so what? It'll probably never trade at 300 again.

As for they yields, of course yields won't be at 15% if the inflation is at 3%, because it makes no sense. So, looking at yields in 1980s and comparing it to today is just plain meaningless. it gives you an idea of what is possible, but not really of what is probable.

Yes, IF the edge is good. For me, my predictive edge is not good enough all the time. So, I tend to get stopped out too much and lose more than I win. And getting stopped out like that multiple times in a row messes with my psychology.
So, I have found that scalping/hedging works better for me psychologically. Very little stress once you get used to it and if you are good at managing a good balance of net equity and are able to maintain awareness of the current trending direction of price action or potential pivot of trend direction, and try to trade accordingly.
I am also a master at playing the game of "Risk - Global Domination". That game requires pretty much the same type of risk management to win consistently. You can download the app from Google Play. You can play with up to 5 other live opponents from around the world in one game. It's a winner takes all kind of strategy game. So, in order to win, all the other players have to get eliminated. If you're the last one to get eliminated (you get 2nd place score), you still get a small positive score and can still advance in the game ranking. If you're the second to last one to get eliminated (you get 3rd place score), usually you break even with your score and maintain your game ranking. If you happen to be the first to get eliminated, your ranking gets sacked pretty badly.
Well, my strategy is to hang back and let the others duke it out among themselves. Most times I get spared and get taken out last and win second place. That's how I became a master and can maintain a master status.
Sometimes other players are stupid and burn themselves out while I'm hanging back and accumulating strength, then when the time is right, I can take over and eliminate all of them in one fell swoop. I love it when that happens.
So, 90% of the time, I win second place. 8% of the time, I win 1st place. 2% of the time, I get unlucky and get 3rd to 6th place. Just a rough guess. But that's how I became a master.
Now apply that to trading.
There is one more higher ranking to achieve. Grandmaster. You have to be a real pro to get there. I am not that good. Yet.

cycle right now is up, just like debt, much higher than in 1980.

But on Xe.com, I see the following chart.

Here, you can see price went sideways and slightly down over the weekend, not up. So, who is right? I have never see Xe.com being wrong. It has always matched Oanda price when market opened.

Summary Opinion on GBPUSD:

AlthoughGBPUSD market operation is presently sideways, it is operating at the lower of the wide 1.27600/1.26100 horizontal channel traceable to the weekly time frame. Although we cannot rule out further northward drive, the technical structure is bearish. Technically, we may see a short-term northward liquidity grab at an area of value before a southward turnaround. As a medium-term swing trader, I will await such a northward liquidity charge; otherwise, a significant bearish breakdown of the 1.27600/1.26100 horizontal channel on a daily closing basis, with a retest of the channel followed by a bullish weakness, would trigger my interest to look for a sell-trading opportunity.

How? It's more likely for both being wrong. But both can't be right, considering the price difference. I suspect Andvk74's chart is some type of futures chart, not regular spot price.

13 minutes to go until 4 hr candle close. Red close doesn't seem likely anymore. But NZD/USD 4 hr candle was red the whole time. All other popular USD pairs are green.
It's looking more like a green Monday then red rest of the week.

Different banks have 50-60 pips difference in EUR/USD price? Nah. It must be futures, like for a few months ahead vs current spot price or something.
