I only set a sl when I can´t look at the charts,before news events or if I am not sure about a trade anymore. I got stopped out too many times with fake spikes. SL makes me crash and burn, I use floating (mental) soft SL. Opened my eyes to risk management. Made me curb bank position sizing and better understand entries.
I agree though, many people frown on this, but i've seen it work for many traders, and it's kind of an unspoken thing that I think more people do than one would believe based off of content you find about trading.
