Hi David,

Very well, i have tried to describe these alerts conditions on 2 different posts i.e #274 & Post #281. I would prefer you focus on strategy description and tools attachment on post #281 which has more detailed information under alert conditions.

With these alerts am seeking to achieve the following;
[list][*] User will have an option to choose preferred pairs that he wishes to focus & be alerted on.[*] User will have an option to choose which timeframes he wishes to be alerted on.[*] User will have an...

OK, this is a lot more complex than what I previously thought. I will have a look this evening.

Sorry, I missed your notes in post #281 when I looked yesterday.

Please note, I can test only Recent Strength, not conditions involving FXI_PivotPoints, Daily Range, etc when generating alerts.

By "preferred pairs", I assume you mean currencies. Recent Strength deals with currencies, not pairs. Alerts can be generated only for currencies.

The sound alert will also be visible, hence I assume "a visible display of the above...." doesn't require separate coding. It will be visible in whatever chart you attach the new indy to. This is a MT4 restriction, I can't do anything about it.

Yes, please focus on generating alerts & testing Resent Strength alerts.

Yes By "preferred pairs", i mean currencies.

In regards to sound on alerts i agree, sound cannot be more visible than its is on MT4,i guess i made a gross mistake right there!!

I will be happy to clarify any information you may need.

Hi Benji,

I have attached the indy RSalerts.mq4 to post #1; install in the ..../experts/indicators folder and restart MT4.

The Recent Strength.ex4 indy must already be running with the OutputFile set to Presets---Recent Strength.csv
This will build the file that is needed by RSalerts.mq4
Since the Recent Strength parameters control the values that get output to this file, they will also affect the way in which the alerts get generated.

Attach RSalerts.mq4 to a different chart to Recent Strength. The pair doesn't matter, but the timeframe will determine how often the alerts get checked. For example, if you want the alerts to be checked every hour, attach the RSalerts.mq4 indy to a H1 chart.

PARAMETERS

FileName — should be left as the default value, i.e. must be the same file that is being built by the Recent Strength indy.

AlertCurrencies — alerts will only get generated for the currencies in this list. You must separate your entries with commas.

AlertTimeframes — specify valid timeframes, separated by commas.
--- A "strong" currency is one that has 1st, 2nd or 3rd highest rank at datapoint #0 (the rightmost datapoint) in EVERY timeframe that you specify.
--- A "weak" currency is one that has 1st, 2nd or 3rd lowest rank at datapoint #0 (the rightmost datapoint) in EVERY timeframe that you specify.
--- A currency that is neither "strong" nor "weak" is "neutral"
--- For an alert to be generated, there must be at least one "strong" and at least one "weak" currency. Also, the currency must have changed its rating (strong, neutral or weak) since the alerts were last checked, in order for an alert to be generated for that currency. (This will ensure that alerts aren't generated repeatedly while ratings remain unchanged)

AlertsBetween — this controls between which times alerts are permitted to occur. The format must be hh:mm:ss,hh:mm:ss where the first entry (before the comma) is the "from time" and the second entry (after the comma) is the "thru time".
--- If the "from time" is earlier than the "thru time", then alerts will be generated only when the br0ker's MT4 time is between the from time and the thru time. e.g. if your entry is 04:00:00,06:00:00 then alerts will be generated only between 4am and 6am (MT4 time).
--- If the "from time" is later than the "thru time", then alerts will be generated only when the br0ker's MT4 time is between the from time and the thru time, across a midnight barrier. e.g. if your entry is 23:00:00,01:00:00 then alerts will be generated only between 11pm and 1am the following day (MT4 time).

The next two parameters control what type of alert will be generated:

ChartAlerts — if TRUE, this will sound/display the familiar MT4 audio/visual alert on the chart (to which RSalerts.mq4 is attached).

EmailSubject — leave blank = no e-mail alerts will be sent. If non-blank, whatever text you type will appear as the e-mail subject.

The alert text looks something like this:
RS alerts [AUDUSD,M15] strong=EUR,JPY, weak=AUD,NZD,
The values inside the square brackets are the pair/timeframe of the chart to which the RSalerts.mq4 indy is attached (as already explained, the timeframe also determines how often alerts are checked).
In the above example, suitable pairs to trade (depending on which are offered by your br0ker): buy EURAUD, EURNZD; sell AUDJPY, NZDJPY

I have done some preliminary testing. Please test it more comprehensively and let me know what you think.

As it turned out, this was an easier programming project than I originally envisaged.
But that's partly because I've digressed from the open-endedness principle that I've previously attempted to stay with. This is very much an "orphan" indicator. And it's my last freebee offering at FF; I have to pay my bills somehow.

David

I can't thankyou enough for this,my heartfelt appreciation. This is excellent coding in just one sitting!!...amazing .

This is how am testing these alerts; To be alerted on the three conditions, i have attached RSalerts on 3 EURUSD 1M (preferred charts) in absence of any visible text on these RSalerts charts ,i have resulted to differentiate them using chart type as follows:

Condition 1 RS alerts [EURUSD,M1] - candlestick chart
Condition 2 RS alerts [EURUSD,M1] - Bar chart
Condition 3 RS alerts [EURUSD,M1] - line chart

With success I have also resulted to use EmailSubject,to differentiate each triggered alert condition. The overall RSalerts.mq4 performance is wonderful.

I have attached a screenshot with Expert tab information that may require your attention.

Thanks Hanover for nice system and beautiful indicator, I am learning to pull trades. RSAlerts will be great addition in accurately pulling trades.

I tried RSAlerts Indicator on EURUSD 1Min or 5Min Chart, but no alerts. I found following error message in Expert Tab.

RS-Alert Error:

2011.10.17 23:09:25 RS alerts EURGBP,M1: symbol name for MarketInfo function must be a string.

Benji,

The errors that you're getting suggest that the file needed to xfer data to RSalerts.mq4 doesn't exist.

Please ensure that you have Recent Strength indy running, with the OutputFile setting set to
Output---Recent Strength.csv
(copy and paste this to make sure you get it exactly correct)Then ensure that a file of that name is being created in the .....(MT4)/experts/files folder, and also that the FileName parameter in RSalerts is set to exactly the same name as above.

I have modified RSalerts.mq4 so that it will place a warning message in the top left corner of the main price chart, if the file doesn't exist. If you see this message, ensure that the file is being created, then de-attach and re-attach RSalerts.mq4

Download the latest version of RSalerts.mq4 from post #1.

I suggest that you try re-posting in one of the "I code your indicators for free" threads (e.g. here), which get higher visibility than this one. Hopefully somebody who has the time and the knowledge will see it there, and code your EA for you.

He is very lucky he did not post in one of Steve`s threads. Honestly, nothing is more annoying than someone posting something totally irrelevant in a thread without even reading Post1, page1. I do not know what gave this chap the idea that this thread is for free EA requests.

If you are reading this my friend, do not waste your time and ask anyone in FF for free EA based on a customized indicator. You have to manually trade your system successfully for at least 2 to 3 weeks, then open a thread detailing your strategy and system with your published results. Then send a PM to EA coders such as Stevehopwood, respectfully asking them to visit your thread and if they deem it worthy to assist you.

Kind Regards

Astral,

I don't mind, as long as he doesn't expect me to code it for him.

It's tough for new members, because I believe they must reach a certain quota of posts before they can start a new thread.

However, your comments make sense to me. I agree that there should be a prerequisite of some kind of track record before programmers are expected to code anything.

Now I have just added another off-topic post to the thread. LOL.

All the best,
David

Send a pm to Stevehopwood detailing everything. If you want it to be private EA he will charge you ($100 upwards depending on the complexity). If you want it to be in the public domain he will not charge you. But he has to like the concept. Therefore, give him plenty of Information including how many trades and what is the win rate.
Good Luck

I don't think anybody will be able to easily code this. I have ZUPv76 and the Gartley patterns are plotted as lines, hence it's impossible to reference ZUP using iCustom(). The comments in the code are in Russian, hence I can not read them. That means the only way to approach this (apart from scanning the objects table) would be to write the Gartley code from scratch, which would require a decent knowledge of straight line equations and some trigonometry.

I'm too busy to take on any more work, and even if that were not so, I expect it would take me several hours to research and implement the Gartley formula, let alone add all of the other requested conditions, add the trading functions, and test the EA comprehensively. Hence the development cost (my rate is USD 70.00 per hour) would be prohibitive.

The Russian programmer who wrote ZUP is a genius. It must have taken him many, many hours.

If you're willing to pay, then you could try contacting sangmane or Ronald Raygun. Good luck.

Thanks guys for all your views and advice most programmers think its a huge project and its a challenge, anyway may be this can be a good challenge to those who code EAs to take up the challenge at their own free time and see what they can come up with trust me its a good strategy, and it works manually ,anyway can any one put an Alert to it to send an Email when a pattern is found?
that way i dont to stay glued to the screen,,Harmonic works most of the time,, Zup 84 perfect

Hi David,

Its hats Off from me really appreciated.

I had to make sure i had captured trades which happened today during London session, before i could send this strategy your way.

Am a visual person and most description are in graphics.Am willing to be taught, so let me know if those descriptions makes sense.
At the moment the new alerts indy is dancing on my platform, am currently studying it's operations .

Hi benji,

I think you've done some great work with your method.

I like your idea of taking a consensus of the time frames to choose the best pairs to trade.

I do think you might be limiting yourself with too many imaginary numbers.

I have searched and have never found any proof that pivots and psychological numbers do anything.

I am also very dubious that daily range makes any difference. Price will go as low or as high as it needs to to satisfy supply and demand.

You might try looking at things like trendline breaks or channel breakouts for entrance.

These are just my thoughts. If what you're doing works, stay with it.

Very well, in regard to pivots point and psychological numbers
i have also sought wisdom from various experienced & profitable traders who have come to a similar conclusion.

Good news is that,am constantly testing various strategies which use trendline breaks or channel breakouts etc, alongside RS as the overall filter.
