That would be a nice dream but in the real world what would happen is the bank would be propped up with public money like last time i.e To Big To Fail....So doing a very communist thing by using tax payers to bail the bank out when they all extoll the benefits of Capatalism.
The whole idea of a free market ecomomy is survival of the fittest so if you can bring to market a product that is better and do it for less then you win market share over your competitors.
But what these Banking Institutions have said and done is We want Capatalism when it suits us and Communism when we fail......and the bunnies in government agree to this and the general population suffers.....badly

I wouldn't put to much stock in some market manipulation theory, more likely as a lot of analyst have said Hollande's negative statement towards Britain triggered some algos to start selling Cable that then triggered a barrier option then a whole lot of algos followed suit....I think to fast for human hands to trigger such an event....
