So once 2880 offers have been cleared I see no reason why it won't head back to 2900 and beyond....

I really don't know, and I doubt it will. Maybe within the week (maybe tomorrow). What looks likely is a sell off on Wednesday.

Targetting 1280 area...

the reason why I had asked is because of an order I had placed on 22 September on GBP/AUD, at 1.67300, and that order is almost ready so to say.

Oh and the way GBP is looking, I dont know if it will be a strong run yet.

I agree buyers need a reason to buy GBP at the moment but there could be a short squeeze in the pipeline causing GBP to jump and with more buyers jumping in would take it to the sell zone of 2950 with 2945 being the high of the day so far...achieved during late Asian session

Ive seen some discussions on today's gap. I would in my considered opinion classify this as a breakaway gap (occur at the end of a price pattern and signal the beginning of a new trend) because it broke an uptrend trendline
