We are in a Renko trading thread now but i hope you are posting about usual TF (not Renko) bactesting coz Renko backtesting is another big story.

  1. The fist is the most important thing is that almost all MT4 brokers cuts off M1 downloading history up to 2 months. It is a period on which you may have the maximum avalable native MT4 backtesting quality of 90%. You have to switch to M1 TF and press PgUp or Home button and wail till all M1 data would be downloaded. Another way is to use scripl forcedloadhistory which do the same work but without pressing a button. If you want to have a longer M1 period (more than 2 months) you have to open MT4, M1 chart and stay connected to brokers server as long as you need. You may also connect from time to time but with pauses not more than 2 weeks.
  2. In case you load data using History Center you should know that this data has nothing to do with your brokers data. Histoy Center data is MQ (MetaQuotes) data and it is the worst data i have ever seen. It is not reliable while backtesting using MQ History Center. Yes while loading from MQ History Center MT4 would adjust time offset according your broker GMT offset.
  3. The last thing which have a great effect on backtesting is EA principles. The most accurate and the fastest backtesting may be obtained if your EA makes all actions (open/close and trail postition) on close bars only. And you dont need to to care of 90% modeling quality in this case. You should have only the data for TF you are backtesting and you may use the fastest model "open prices only". The highest data quality requirements when you are testing on M1 TF and EA may open/close or trail position on the same bar.

At the moment imho more promissing looks another my "Simple Renko Strategy" EA. It is RenkoVdub. You may try and compare it with previous one. It needs to have Vdub_Pivot_Channel indicator in your MQL4/Indicators folder. Hi Sevan,

There is a fault with your latest Renko Vdub.
I tested it in Reverse and Normal mode.
Sell trades have no SL or TP set in both modes.
Buy trades are ok.

It's placing some strange numbers for the Sell trades, see picture.
Buy trades look ok.
I'm using 50 for SL and TP.

Early Strategy Test results look promising. I'll post forward results when I've given it a good run.

You're probably sick of looking at code right now, but...
I thought an additional (and simple) feature would compliment the RenkoVDub trade entry method.
If you added a parameter that allowed you to isolate UP trends from Down trends and visa versa, we could optimize SL TP ranges for each trade direction the Vdub Pivot Channel indicates.
In the EA settings this could be via a dropdown menu that looked something like:

Trade Direction >

Trade Up & Down
This is how the EA currently operates. Opening trades when a market has reached either an extreme high or extreme low point.
Trade Down Only
This setting would only open trades when a market has reached an extreme high and is expected to fall.
Trade Up Only
This setting would only open trades when a market has reached an extreme low and is expected to go up.

Perhaps you could look at this when you have a free moment, sometime?

Here is my chart preset for Renko boxes method.
I use EMA (24 or 35) to identify prevailing trend and EMA 2 crossing EMA 2 shifted 3bars for entry signals .
Im relatively noob to trading, so I dont claim my preset to be good or correct and any critics and advices are welcome, but I offer it just to picture my idea on another way to automate Renko method.
We have a well known Universal MA Cross EA which offers flexible entry rules with different filters (like third MA to identify main trend and cross filters by number of bars and price points) and money management options.
I think this EA could be successfully used with Renko method. Using my preset example, we could set EA to buy when EMA 2 crosses up EMA 2 shifted 3 bars and reverse for sell with filters to open trades only with a trend defined by EMA 35 direction and at defined cross distance (variations are endless).
I have just launched it for forward testing on VPS, and for best results EA settings require further polishing, but I think it could work.
Any ideas on using this EA with Renko are welcome.

Already added. It is "EMA200 Trend Following filter". EA will respect trend if you activate it. Open EA setting and you'll find it.

Will you be so kind as to share your skill how to define these two simple events. Imho we need nothing to grow rich except this type of knowledge.

Yeah. It was early in the morning when I wrote that, I was referring to the market extremes as visualised by the VDub Channel boundaries.

The additional feature that I kindly request is simply this: A method to trade RenkoVDub buy signals only or, sell signals only.
Could you include this please?

first of thanks for your EA, I am testing it right now and it looks good so far..need more testing tho.
I was wondering you you could provide us with mq4 file so we know whats behind the source code and how will EA react in different situations.
If you still developing this I would like to see variable SL with last swing or previous candle high/low...possible break even and more customizable stuff like that.
