These spreads are from Tickmill ECN account. Their execution and spreads were not bad during normal trading hours. Don't know what they mean by doing that on Friday closing.

It is not just Tickmill, most brokers increase their spreads around 30 minutes before market close on Fridays. That's why you should either close them or make sure you have plenty of equity in the account.

Hedging works as reversal technique and would need a way to calculate when you break even to be able to able to also calculate what price is need to close all hedging positions in profit.. Many traders use this but you need to start at lowest risk possible if the market is volatile like nowadays. that way when you hedge and wan to reverse a number of time, you can use as much of your allowed margin as you can..

Yes. That's true hedging by opening positions with the same size in the opposite direction.I also agree that this needs to be used as reversal technique .But this will work only when market moves to the reversal levels,and some times it will keep floating or ranging in a price that you can't close any of these positions. So either close them or your broker will find a way to close them (Friday last minute massive spreads) lol.

hedging is a result of loss aversion. Once emotion takes over, the outcome is not good.

Even if you're right, you can't tell when its going to close. It may take days and go a long way in opposite direction. This is from Scottish referendum, daily chart. It took over 3 days and 150 pips in opposite direction before closing the gab.

Itīs just natural, happens every Friday on every serious ECN broker. Liquidity is getting thin during these times and at 23:59 youīll see the widest spreads as banks pull liquidity in the last minute almost completely, leaving you with a market that just consists of a few offers and bids left that go into the weekend, hence spread can be anywhere from 0 to 100 pips or more in a worst case scenario. usually they are somewhere between 20 to 40 pips on a normal ECN broker. Thatīs just the real market, if no one trades and hence offers liquidity with their limit orders, you canīt get low spreads. Remember that spread is the difference between the best buy and best sell order in the order book. And naturally by Friday 23:59 the order book is almost empty and youīll see such spreads.

The only way to avoid this is to remove your stops right before market close if you want to go into weekend exposure and not get stopped out at 23:59 because of spread spikes (and that wonīt hurt since stops are not honored on the weekend anyway) and put them on again after market open, or simply close your positions before the weekend.
