GBP/USD spikes on no news to briefly break above 1.4600 and trade with gains of over 1 point.... what caused it ? all good.

it could have been a stop run of ungodly magnitude....oddly a similar spike is in AUD for the interest rate...it like some deep pocketed entity killed its short in gbp to place it on AUD!?

Australia GDP is relatively good, but a lot of pressure to cut rates by 25 basis points ... I hope 1.4509x not broken to be support..

There was pressure from some quarters to cut rates but we had way better first quarter GDP figures that prevented the RBA from doing so.....here in Australia we survived the GFC because China was still buying our commodities and lots of them so while the world suffered we came through pretty much unscathed. It's true madness to cut rates down to zero because once your there you got no where to go.
Greenspan who knew the US economy would tank kept kicking the can down the road by lowering interest rates so the US economy wouldn't tank while he was in charge of things.....left it to the suckers that came after him

Thanks for the information, Australia has a pretty good economic resilience, for AUD I'm optimistic in the medium term (around 3-6 months ahead) will be in the range .77xxx-78xxx, just my opinion....everything can happen

Actually I think Australia's economy will go to the wall eventually because of Dinosaur minded politicians over here whos pockets are being filled by those who represent oil and mining interests.
Came out just the other day that developing economies around the world are now outspending the west when it come to renewable energy sources therefore over the next few years there will be less and less people to sell our coal to.....it may be as you say Australia's economy is way more resistent than I give it credit for but our politicians couldn't organise a piss-up at brewery let alone manage an economy in a rapidly changing world.....interesting times ahead.....

Honestly I focus on housing as a benchmark indicator of growth, some other indicators remain stagnant, the energy sector is the largest revenue, changes in world energy consumption will clearly have an impact but gradually will increasingly affect the economy. I hope china economy can good survive because it will have a major impact to the countries which are the main partner. specifically for china, my focus to the work force & the amount of debt (the possibility of default is increasing), I didn't expect much from exports

Here i am praying and hoping cable comes down so i can buy again. Had 900 plus pips TP earlier but refused to TP.. GREED!!
Meanwhile my Trade Explorer.... so far the aggressive method is paying off ehn??? out for the day. no more trading unless cable comes down to my pending order. BYE! happy pippin!

I think China has deep pockets to get them out of any crap they sink themselves into, it's all part of their plan for stability.

In Australia we have allowed overseas investors to drive up the cost of housing to ridiculous levels making it unaffordable for a lot of first home buyers, therefore the possibility of a huge crash in housing is on the cards and all it would take is for a fall in confidence across Asia for money to start to be removed from Australia and then a trickle could become a full blown runaway housing crash.
It's funny that we allow all these investors from the Asian countries around us to buy our housing and land yet try and do so in their countries and you'll find either you can't do so or strict rules apply like you have to marry someone from that country before you can buy housing. I say whatever law is there in that country then the same applies here, so if you can't buy housing in a country then those people can't buy in ours, then maybe regulations in other countries might soften a bit.
