Never seen a stock do 20% of its market cap in volume in one day... Was worth about $50bln at opening (now $40 bln).. but over $10bln in volume...

There wasn't any Euro until 1999. I don't think a simulated value based on a basket of the currencies that were included is quite the same, because even though there was the ECU, people and nations still bought and sold stuff with marks, franks, etc, and the effect was different.

can follow your argumentation :-) and agree on it.

But keep in mind: when the EURO started, the basket was quiet another one than today. Many more countries joined the EURO after the inauguration. How should we handle this?

ignore it, all important countries were in at the beginning, all comes after are new markets for main countries to sell their products.
