My thoughts? Some Bollinger band basics here, plus a warning that if you're going to use indicators to signal entries, then (if I may generalize) they 'work' profitably only some of the time, success is highly dependent on overall context, and much will also depend on your exits

%b (Bandwith) - MT4 don't have an indi for this ?

Yeah I know what you mean about entries, just when I'm researching BB's I'm keep hearing about %b bandwith indi,
I guess i just wanted to see it on the chart if you know what I mean.

Is there anything that comes close to it on the MT4 do you know ?

Thanks Hanover

There are dozens of third party written indicators, e.g. try here here here here here here ..... plus another 26,600 hits found using Google.

If a mq4 file is pre-build 600 and compiles with errors, then here is the solution.

I would like a CSM indicator that does not normalize (0-100) and can be centered on 0 level. So it means the value in theory can go from -00(infinite) to +00 (infinite) centered on a 0 level that of course will be relative .

Sorry I forgot: the strength or weakness shall take in account the volume of the bar.

Basically I would like the Recent Strength indicator but w/o the scaling. I was not able to modify the Recent Strength indicator in order to remove the scaling ;-(

Can somebody help me ?

Thanks a lot

Hi Hanover,

an old thread so you may not ever see this but in trying to reduce the number of pairs displayed, to just EUR vs USD steength it seems to lock the indicator.
i.e set pairs to EU and that is it. Is there a reason for this?. It continues to work with all pairs listed but I would like to save some processing power and just see EurUsd
Many thanks,
PG

Impossible to troubleshoot without more info, e.g. what your parameter settings are, your br0ker/MT4 build# etc. I just tried to run the indicator on Axi Trader build 940 (using all currency pairs) and it seems to lock up, but with MT4 repeatedly sounding its connect/disconnect audio, while the indy attempts to load all of the required data. But I have it running 100% on Pepperstone build 745, although if I strip it down to just EUR and USD, all of the plots disappear!

If RS causes your MT4 to run too slowly, then you could try one of the many other strength meters listed in the green typeface in post #1. That might be the simplest solution. The RS indy is complex and possibly pushes MT4 close to its limits, both computationally and in terms of CPU/internet resources.

Dear Hanover, I hope all is well.

Sir I ask for a humble request to make an Alert and an EA for 2 indicators, RSI and ENVELOPES. I can pay you for your time and effort. I dont know who else to ask and i have been following your posts for a long time and can see that your the right person to ask. If you can help me I would be forever grateful.

What I need is the following:

Indicator: ENVELOPES
Currency: Current
Time Frame: Current
Period: 8
Shift: 0
MA Method: Simple
Apply to: Median Price (HL/2)
Deviation: 0.22 %
ALERT: I would like to be alerted (notification/email) when the price touches the lower or the higher bands.

Indicator: RSI
Currency: Current
Time Frame: Current
Period: 8
Apply to: Median (HL/2)
Levels: 20 and 80
ALERT: I would like to be alerted when the price touches the 20/80 Levels.

I would ideally like to have an alert/email/notification when BOTH the conditions are met, rather than just one. If all works fine, then I would like to automate this in to my MT4 Platform.

I would greatly appreciate it Sir if you can do this for me.

Thank You in Advance.
May Peace & Blessings Of The Almighty God Be Upon You.

Hi,

I am very sorry, but I'm no longer coding or troubleshooting indicators, unless the indicator or EA is useful to me personally. You could try posting in one of the "I code your indicators for free" threads, and perhaps somebody else can help you.

Or since you're willing to pay for the work, you could try MQL or elance. There are a great many programmers who are very happy to code for money.
Some of the best (and who also happen to be FF members) are sangmane, Christina Li, FerruFX and cja.

Good luck,
David

As shown in the first screenshot below, the attached version of the indicator works fine for me on Pepperstone MT4 build 950.

The second and third screenshots show the parameter settings used to produce the first screenshot. The parameters that I changed from the default settings have been highlighted in yellow; nothing else needs to be changed. Provided that you set ParameterFile to NONE, you shouldn't need to download any other files, apart from 'Recent Strength.ex4'

As you can see, I have set TimeFrames to D1, hence only the D1 strength is plotted. You can later add additional timeframes by separating the entries with commas, e.g. H4,D1,W1
However, I suggest starting with D1 only to begin with, to verify that the indicator works correctly. The indy has to load data for 28 different pairs for each timeframe from your br0ker's server, and this process can take several minutes. Hence to see a result more quickly, start with D1 only.

If your br0ker has missing or incorrect price data, the indicator may not work properly.

If you can't get the indicator to work correctly on your br0ker's MT4, there are plenty more strength meters to try -- see the green typeface in post #1.

Dear Trademark & Hanover,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I have download the indicator into the Indicator folder as in the attachment but the indicator does not show up in my mt4. All my indicators have a number 4 on it. Recent strength does not have it. I will follow your advice and try to find a currency strength meter on page 1 of this Thread. Pity, it is really a great indicator that can be used in different systems.

Regards

Antonioo

Are you sure you downloaded the indicator into the correct folder? If I use MT4 menu option 'File -> Open Data Folder' (see screenshot below) I get a long folder name including a 32-digit string in the path (highlighted in yellow). Then I put any indicators in the .../MQL4/Indicators folder underneath that folder.

Also, you need to exit and restart MT4 for any new indicators to be recognized by MT4.

If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I've run out of ideas. You'll need to try a different strength meter.

Dear hanover,

Thank you for replying again. I am afraid it does not work. Having said that, I downloaed a Strength Meter called CCF from thread 1. It is not super accuarate but it might do the job. I was looking for a strength meter multi time frame like this one but plotted in a single chart so that I could have seen what the currencies are doing at glance in the 5m 15m 1h and maybe daily chart.

As you can see from the pictures the yellow line crosses above the red in the 15m chart but in the 5m chart doesn't. It is ok more or less.

Thanks anyway

Antonioo

I'm sorry that you couldn't get the RS indy to work. However, it is not suited for crossover-based signals, because the plots are rescaled to values between 0 and 100, making any crossovers effectively meaningless. Hence the CCF indicator is possibly a better choice, anyway.
