hanover,

Thank you for your great work and sharing. Just wanted to add something that is obvious to some but not all: in order for this indicator to compile you need hanover's include files as well. I found those here: http://www.forexfactory.com/showthre...58#post7663558

Thanks,
Nico

Hanover,

A big thankyou for your efforts and kindly making your indicators available... mine still works on my mt4 although I dont use MT4 to trade any more, its there in the background to help me analyse my bias towards the pairs I'm trading. I would advise anyone who is new to forex to go anyway and look into the idea of correlated pairs and strong vs Weak pairs to help it benefit their own trading. It can help if you pick the right pair to trade from the off and help turn a losing trade (perhaps using a mechanical system) on another currency pair to a positive one.

Thanks,
SuperBlue

Thank you for your continuous help to other traders like us.

One thing i wanted to know for a very long time..

Is there a currency meter that have alerts with them? For example, while using giraia's when any currency is above 6, the mt4 will alert us somehow.

Thank you for your attention..

All of the currency strength meters that I'm currently aware of are listed in the links in green typeface in post #1. Some may include alerts, I can't be sure, as I haven't test driven all of them. Beyond that there are always search engines (of course), there are thousands of third party indicators available for MT4. Good luck, I hope that you find something that meets your requirement.

{quote} I changed my mind, and decided to overhaul the code for this indicator (named because it was originally written for giraia_br). Attached is the latest upgrade. This version compiles with no errors on MT4 build 509, and the ex4 appears to run 100% on both Pepperstone build 745 and AxiTrader build 610. I recommend installing the .ex4 file only. If you attempt to compile the .mq4 on build 600 or later, you'll likely get errors (more info in this thread). I've included the .mq4...

Hi Hannover,
I liked very much your Recent Strength indicator.
Could you please eliminate the normalization to 0-100 ?

I'll appreciate if you can send me also the source code of the indicator.
Thanks in advance
Fabio

NOTE (Jan 31, 2014): Any indicators or EAs that I've contributed to this thread will probably no longer work in the latest MT4 build that is (if I understand correctly) due to be rolled out on Feb 3. If you want to ensure that these indicators/EAs continue to work correctly, do NOT upgrade your MT4 beyond the current build (509). I don't know how to re-code them to make them run correctly in the new look MT4, and I've no desire to re-educate myself to learn the new programming language that MetaQuotes is forcing upon everybody. Personally I think...

I assume that you're referring to the Recent Strength indy (there are other strength indys in the thread).

Re using iCustom:
I've never tried it. I suspect it would be unwieldy, given the large number of parameters. As an alternative, RS can output a CSV file of results (the OutputFile parameter is explained in post #1). Steve Hopwood utilized this approach in his 'hanover' EAs (here). Additionally, I created a code fragment that loads the data from the CSV file into arrays, so that values can be easily and directly referenced by the EA, for its decision-making process. I can post this code if you wish (let me know), but it was written prior to build 600, and hence will probably compile with errors using the post build 600 (MQL5) compiler. Hence it would need to be modified accordingly. Note: this solution requires the RS indy to be running alongside the EA, to continuously provide the file of strength values that is being read and processed by the EA.

Re changing the default parameters -- two possibilities:
1. Save your desired settings in a MT4 template, and then load the template;
OR
2. Use Parameter files (explained in the ParameterFile setting in post #1, and further in post #48). This allows you to store multiple sets of parameters in different text files (use an editor like Notepad to maintain them), and then you simply type the file extension into the ParameterFile parameter, and all of the parameter settings in the text file are loaded and used, instead of those in MT4's 'Inputs' tab dialog.

thanks for these posts!!! im using Giraia currency strength. I know that it calculates the current candle(most right candle) this indi is exactly what i need....well almost. i need for it to give me the previous candle strengths. I just care for the last Daily candle and nothing else. So i have to take a look at 4:59pm eastern time and take a quick screen shot b4 they change over. i miss it most of the days. LOL. Anyways i'll keep looking. anyone seen anything i need feel free to let me know. But im still looking.

I did just notice this. wow been a few weeks.

"string RefreshPeriod = "T";
How often you want the values to be recalculated and re-plotted.
T = every new price tick; or specify M1, M5, M15, etc to have the indicator update on the first tick of each new M1, M5, M15 candle etc."

I'm assuming if i change it to D1 that will calculate the last day?
im going to give that a try.

Giraia calculates the position of the current (bid) price relative to the high and low of the currently forming candle. If the current price is at the low, the value is 0, at the high it is 100, if exactly at the midpoint it is 50, if it is 27% of the way up the candle it is 27, and so on. Then it averages these values across all pairs for a given currency. If you set TimeFrame to D1, it is the currently forming D1 candle, if you set TimeFrame to H4, it is the currently forming H4 candle, and so on.

RefreshPeriod is merely how often the indicator recalculates and updates itself:
 T = every tick
OR
 M1, M5, M15 etc = on the first tick of each M1, M5, M15, etc candle (i.e. absolute timeframes, TF remains 'locked' even if you switch charts). Hence if you wanted it to update once every 5 minutes, you'd type M5
OR
 +0 = the first tick of each new candle on the current chart, +1 = first tick of each new candle on the next longer TF, -1 = first tick of each new candle of the next shorter TF, etc. Hence if the current chart is H4: +0 = H4, +1 = D1, +2 = W1, etc; -1 =H1, -2 = M30, etc. (i.e. relative to the TF of the current chart, TF changes as you change charts)

I don't have a Giraia indicator whose calculation is based on prior candles.

It looks like three different plots of Williams Percent Range (aka Williams %R or WPR) with three different periods (it defaults to blue line=14, green line=10, red line=20). Simply compare it to MT4's native Williams Percent Range indicator to verify this. You could use it as an alternative to RSI if you want to; all overbought/oversold oscillators (e.g. RSI, stochastic, WPR, etc) show much the same thing IMO.
