All the currencies are worthless...USA national debt is obviously the highest but the USA is also the largest economy. As a percentage of GDP, the UK debt load (and Japan) are up at the top of the list of the worst.

why ithe focus on GBPUSD when it might be better to go for GBP against a weaker currency now like Eur or JPY.

Definitely best to trade GBP xxx... especially lately, you see GBP making new highs against CHF, NZD, AUD, EUR, CAD, almost daily now..... I hardly ever trade GBP USD anymore , stick with the crosses.
