Well, now that name calling has began, I'll know who has to be ignored. Apologies to other members, I tried to have a civil debate, that proved to be impossible.

{quote} Sorry, but what would you do with your gold in a crisis? You buy food? Selling 1 kg for 2 potatoes in case you re hungry?
Ignored
1. Gold is not only for "crisis" periods.
2. To answer your question, what you do with it:
A) Store your wealth for the after crisis rather than being wiped out.
B) Buy things with it if needed. It will always buy more than the fiat currency, even if it's not as much as you would like in such a period.

You invest in weapons to protect yourself for the big crisis yet?
I'm not too much a weapon guy, and it's really hard to own weapons in countries I usually spend my time. So, no.

Dont buy gold, buy land and become a farmer, i guess youll get your gold cheaper afterwards
Land is probably an excellent idea. Can't be taken with you in case of problem, and you own it because the government of the country has your name registered on the file. This can be changed quickly. Choose wisely the country and see to not have too much property tax to pay every year.

Let's say land first, precious metal for the excess. Agricultural land is not that expensive, and you may not want to store all your wealth in land. Gold is easier and quicker to sell if needed.

And the guy in your video seems to have at some points right, but it would not be as easy for switzerland to handle a stupidly overvalued currency... Less Tourists, less exports, less jobs, less gdp,... Guess there will always be fiat money in future. Sleep comfortable on your gold, ill do it on my fiat money bought bed now

Sure, ask Venezuela for example...
And they have a better weather and the sea.

It's funny how a bunch a people manage to convince everybody of crazy things.
I just though this today again with "Luxembourg leaks": "they" manage to put things in a way that tells that not taxing people enough is bad. Taxing everybody like crazy is good.
Deflation is bad, it's probably even evil. (You can listen Schiff talking about that on youtube)
And to finish: Working hard to get a fiat currency with an intrinsec value close to 0 is good. Letting central bankers create out of thin air as much as they want is good. And a weaker currency is good. Strong currency is bad.

If you have a "stupidly overvalued currency", you can afford to import all you need so cheaply, you can spend your time on vacation and let all the "the weaker the currency, the better" people work for you. If you want to work like crazy for nothing, there are plenty of countries that propose that... Have a look in south asia, you should find a nice spot, weather and sea included as bonus.

A YES to this vote would be the most clever move ever made by a country (its people) these days.

I'm gonna sort this out. PPL who are talking about Gold as if some important factor in living must return their words into their mouths and shut up.

Whatever Swiss party behind this campaign of Yes Vote for Gold Referendum, are not working for a better stable Franc or Swiss Economy, but for their personal goals as most politicians, the fault is mostly on the PPL who elect them

PPL happy of Gold for buying, have you asked yourselves when did Gold have some value??? It's just few years ago that it came out of its coffin and it will sure go back there sooner than later

When we go back 100s of eras backward and start dealing with Gold instead of currencies to buy things, inform me by then to start exchanging my money for it

Stop this nonsense ppl!!! what will physical Gold help for??? Is it some retirement gift sold after decades, surely after you die your children or the inheritances will be more clever than you by selling it instantly if Gold goes back to record highs again!!!

If SNB have the least common sense, it will intervene in EC before 30 Nov. and tell the yes vote F**K Off we already expanded our balance sheet again, no ability to apply your voting results... so better vote for No.

Who are stupidly talking about a safer Swiss better economy and currency if holds 20% Gold in Swiss...blah blah blah

Do you even know that yourself can't travel and live in Swiss more than a month(at best) without going bankrupted

Do you know that Swiss is one of the most expensive countries for living!!!!

Do you know despite it's a very lovely country but tourism is limited for the very rich ppl since there are other nice countries for different kinds of tourism worldwide and much much much cheaper.

Even if can afford it, who will spend a month vacation in Switzerland costing some 100K when can spend it in another beautiful countries for 20K at max.

Stop this nonsense, buy Gold in the market but not retain it at your home dreaming of new record highs...

Nowadays is the time of quick money in and out like Market Trading despite all its high risk.

PPL are searching how to make money in short time, investing in the right assets, you want to Buy gold and sleep on it for years, are you normal dude?!!!

Land(including houses...etc) is one of the good investments to make if want to keep part of your money in something physical but also must invest in the right country...which is at end subject to the same factor that is named CURRENCY

Do you know how cheap lands houses apartments...etc are in many parts of Europe than in the US or Swiss for example?? Do you know how much more cheap and very very affordable for foreigners it will become if Euro continues to weaken?!!!
But do you know how much that effects these countries citizens who bought it at high and selling it at low or seeing its price evaporate!!!

It's a wide cycle that turn back to CURRENCY

You get it dude/s?!!
Trade according to current market condition, not what you think would be.

Short term is not "investing"
I spoke of long term store of value and wealth and you answer me about short term gains...

Then answer to the same question I asked the other guy: Then what do you do with 1 million you have and want to save very long term ?
You sleep on cash ? Of which country ? Which would bring you back in this case to why people who wanted to do this were liking the Swiss Franc... and why !?

I have watched 3min47sec of the video, then looked into on a couple of spots. Altogether 5min. 5 min sheer wasting time. Painfully poor, incompetent. I live now for 20 years in Switzerland, trading CHF pairs for 10 years. The video is at the same level as Dorgan's snbchf blog or Qatar's comments in this forum from 2012...
It is better, if nothing is happening with the pair and in the forum, then this...

Devabala: Ok, calling someone expressing his view "Painfully poor, incompetent" is one thing. At least you don't have the pretention to tell other what to do or to think.
But, I would like to read your view. So, as a Swiss resident, you would like a weaker currency too ? The lower, the better ? Gold is BS and the SNB should even sell whatever they have left ? You feel comfortable having your CHFs backed by HUGE amounts of EUR (especially with Eurozone enduring situation) ? Tell us. Show us how your analysis is so much better (and maybe it is)

Exchanging views to get ideas and think about things is the goal of a forum, no ?

Mevo:

strong currency: less production, due to higher costs, less jobs, less money for the people, less consumption, more deflation, less consumption...

what is the exactly the advantage of a stronger currency? I still dont see it. I dont want all the factories to move out of switzerland...

Swissie: I already answered several times, just read my last posts, but you keep asking because you don't want to believe it.
Deflation = less consumption is 100% politician and central banker propaganda BS.
Deflation = goods cheaper = more money available = more consumption. If their so called "it's cheaper tomorrow, I wait, and wait and wait" was true, people would never buy a TV. Apple would never sell an Iphone. And a lot of consumption simply cannot be delayed: people won't stop to buy food, clothes, etc... How do you imagine the thing ? You go to the supermarket because you want to buy something that costs 100, and it appears to cost only 98. You get angry because it won't cost you as much as you expected, and decide to not buy it ? Reality is that if it really was cheaper, you may buy a second one.

Less production due to higher costs ? Costs get lower due to local deflation you are so afraid of or because of cheaper imports. No way costs get higher.

Less money for the people ? Maybe a very little if the currency gets very strong, but with a higher purchasing power, so people win. What's the point of getting bigger numbers ? The point is what you can buy with it, not the amount of worthless currency you get.

Are you serious with your post ? There is not 1 once of logic in it.
But I have to admit it's the propaganda you hear all year long...

Just take the facts if you want: Compare actual Switzerland's currency value and unemployment rate with the rest of the world.
As I already said, Switzerland has enjoyed a strong currency since a while and had the very last gold backed currency on the planet and they did really great with it.

But you believe what you want, it's up to you.
