It's how brokers made their money; either on the width of the spread when you open and close a trade or by the amount of swap points they charge for overnight rolls.

Yes, the computation is standard - and is a very simple calculation - but the amount of the cake taken by each broker differs. If you are long the currency with the higher overnight interest rate of the pair, then the swap points are always positive (prior to the broker taking a cut).

If you are a position trader and hold positions for days/weeks. then the amount charged on overnight positions should be a major factor when deciding on a broker.
