That is just a Fib number before 50% and comes into play several times.
Taking x,n as zero,
0 = C( 1.618 )'0 + D( - 0.618 )'0 = C + D.
So, C = - D.
Taking x,n as one,
1 = C( 1.618 )'1 + D( - 0.618)'1.
Substituting C for - D,
1 = C( 2.236 ). So, C = 0.447. And D = - 0.447.
Therefore, x,n = ( ( 1.618 )'n - ( - 0.618 )'n )0.447.

USDJPY selling off even after 30yr sold at 3.44% when WI was at 3.40%...


usdjpy should be going up??

Mainly because the band is 2% wide now. The USDCNY isnt touching the limits of the band any more (it was for the entire 2nd half of 2013) so there no need to continue accumulating FX reserves. There was one last blast of accumulation when they intervened in Q1 2014, I assume thats whats been driving treasury and USD the past 8 weeks.
