I think it's more to do with people getting trapped against the trend in a bad position, don't want to take a loss, add to those positions at a higher level and then are more committed to it if it keeps going up.
No surprise it's traders psychology. Same psychology that traders have when we are on the winning side, we get excited, we boast, we post how many pips we have made and laugh at the traders still learning and dealing with issues and all the telling ourselves we are in the 5% and we would never get caught in that positions.
The truth is even the very experience traders get caught in a move and hold on to it longer than they should. Thats why number one issue traders face should always be on the management of equity and taking the loss.
