I have found a way how to turn this into a more useful place. Once they accept this offer, I will open my bookshop taking bets here. That will bring back my $500 plus much more than what I can earn from forex.

Yes, I think that is good Idea.

This thread can be often very boring , a lot of dick measuring, a lot of talk, talk, talk…..many just like to show how knowledgeable they are…….to me is just a sign of not being able to trade, good traders do not talk, they do not care to be right, they act…..they try to learn, they are humble...

I think, if people could not call at least two live calls a week, should not be able to post, words in trading mean nothing….

I was just reading some of the statistics from traders positions here, and I was rather shocked that the majority are short the Euro which has been in a clear uptrend all year.

But then again, this shouldn't come as a surprise, as the mindset of the retail trader is to go against the trend, on the "hunch" that it's "near a top" and "if I initiate a short here, I'm going to make a fortune as the trend reverses and I ride it down."

Sounds good, and sometimes people will get lucky, and accurately call a top -- but the vast majority of the time, they just get burned.

You are right, also I think the visual can influence the mind, what we see on a bull trend is a number of consecutive bars on the left side rising up, it seem that there is a long way to go down because of the trace left, while not having any trace above will give very much the impression that there is not much way go up, so it will be more difficult for people to take trades in the unknown…we must take in consideration the fact that anxiety place a big role into the decision making of a loser trader….. PLaese correct me if you find this of a bit of BS…..I do not mind…….I am working…...

Right on many counts, but not all.

There is no point in engaging in a discussion without a complete scenario. When we say short? short from where and for what target or with what strategy or with how much risk? If we say that majority of these were short, it means nothing. This is a very general statement. People may go short knowing that this is an uptrend and we cannot say they are wrong unless we know the logic and plan behind their this action.

Live as if it is you last day, and someday, you will be right. If one takes blind chance of a trend change at every major level, will be right one day. A retail trader is so illinformed that has no choice but to either take blind chances with whatever little he/she knows or try to find a technical edge. I do not blame them unless soon after a trend revesal they again start look for reversal of this new trend every few pips.

Getting burnt is part of business for retail traders.......... they get burned in many ways.

Yeah, I don't know what is about us traders that makes us want to buck the trend, and go contrarian, but this urge is very, very strong amongst our kind.

I used to think this way as well, I'd gaze at a powerful uptrend and think "Look how high it's come, there's no way it can go higher, I'm shorting here!"

Of course, I was almost never right, and after many failed trades, I readjusted my way of thinking.

Now, I never, ever go against the trend, no matter how high or how low.

I always buy strong markets, and always sell weak ones.

Your neat post make sense, but I think Jason was taking more of the general sense, it is always easier to trade with the big trend, even when scalping….

Don't know how people go with or against a trend with any level of assurance. I am never sure or reasonably sure about the trend. As soon as you embark on a mega trend to ride a little on it, it gets 50% retrace exactly from your entry. If you go against a trend, it starts making leaps against your direction and it is too late before you realize what you thought was a trend exhaustion is in fact just start of the trend. In other words, fuck the trend following and also fuck the contra trend trading. Find something else and you will be very happy.
