Last time I checked economy professors make horrible traders.
I do suggest everyone to read Market wizards books specially latest one Hedge fund wizards.Its an eye opener how these guys think.
I sent out copies whoever requested plus more.
Point is we are traders not investors! We are not going to hold positions over a year or two hence lot of fundamentals does not necessarily apply not to mention every trend has serious corrections as well.
In trading, you have to be defensive and aggressive at the same time

Agreed Condor. Some people like to force their views on others and then insult them when they don't agree.

There's a simple solution for that... The "Ignore" button. It works wonders.

I don't think anyone is getting their numbers right here.

SPX is up 99.2%
STOXX 600 is up 58.3%

Both since Jan 2009 and because we are considering relative performance there is a ccy adjustment.

and I'm glad you did. You're the resident :nerd:here and I always appreciate your input.

Yes of course if you adjust for exchange rates on a USD base, it paints a different picture. However, you must consider that for performance purposes, Eurozone assets should me measured in Euros and American assets measured in USDs... in which case I believe I am quite close with my "approx 100%" claim.

For the most part, if Americans invest in foreign capital markets, they usually hedge themselves against the ccy exchange risks... or at least the smart ones do anyway.

very true that we could look at this in EURs, but I think the context was for capital inflows - therefore whatever we consider, both assets need to have the same ccy denomination.

if "Mr Macro" Aki300986 has knowledge of capital flows for Europe, he would know to look at EUR cross currency basis swaps to determine true demand for speculative EURs to invest. but who knows - doubt he does...

I think whats important is the fundamental animal generally is far bigger than your knowledge of this one point ,if correct or not ,and its not tradable
as I see eu and gu down lol

Actually the context was about the European equities being undervalued and the argument made by Mr. Macro was that it would compel investors (Like Bill Gates) to dump US equities and buy Eurozone equities.

Hey I'm no expert on what deep pocketed investors do with their money, but if Jim Rogers is anything to go by, I'm not following.

Anyway, we're here to trade the moves, not to invest in a 10 year position.

if he looks at a chart of spanish equity and sees that it has underperformed US equity and comes up with the conclusion that it is undervalued then he is delusional. But we need suckers in the market for us to profit.
