It could be typical Pound movement of going in the opposite direction before a big news event.
In this case, it is probably the forthcoming announcement of a deal to raise the US debt ceiling, which should send the Pound and the Euro rocketing higher on a new "risk-on" environment. There will be no taper until Yellen and some are now speculating that the US may have to increase its asset purchases. Bullard's speech may give some insight into that. And don't forget that Draghi will speak later today and that is always good for a spike higher for the Euro.

ha. you getting use of bad data = more QE.
Market can go to hell if no QE. I am a firm believer FED has started tapering under the table.

Seems like bad Unemployment Claims has no influence on GBP/USD pair at all....?

yeah bullard speech and draghi speech,also kuroda, why there is none of that event on forexfactory calendar on this site..?

Exactly. I'm guessing the USD and general US market rallies are based on the Yellen news. If you guys can remember, when Summers stated he was stepping down markets rallied considerably, only to pull back again the next day and the next... USD will not show any clear signs of strength until this default debacle is completely handled and the markets can get a clear view of where we are headed.

End of my day... sat on hands with cable... nothing much to report (wafting around range but due to go south imo)

GJ rallied and is still very interesting (ÚJ is a safe haven & UJ responded to Dollar Index - interesting - not FX 101 stuff)
Commodity crosses have also enjoyed support UC AU (even the zar rallied)
Commodities such as gold and oil have shown some weakness inviting a gold / oil short play
This leads me to follow up here with a continuing GU short philosophy....
