Let a crash happen? I think is a bit more complex then that. Perhaps there is plenty of blame to go around like Greenspan and the easy money plan that inflated the housing market with shite mortgages or the firms that over levered beyond comprehension, skyrocketing commodities etc etc.Much of which looks to be repeating itself.

We live in a free market which the president has little control over. I mean we can regulate every little thing, but I don't think that is necessarily the best thing to do.

you can't get vol data as its OTC, I'm sure there are estimates somewhere though

Remember this is just the 10Y futures there are also IRS's and other swaps so its impossible to really accurately tell, but could be 10x the futures volume

Can't forget ETF's aswell

the gov does not pay interest as such ... it effectively pays interest "up front" in the form of discount when it allows you to acquire a T-Bill at a purchase price lower than the face value... there is a very similar explanation to my (admittedly long winded) blurb at: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/...lls_glance.htm

you don't get a coupon or interest check when you own a T-Bill - which makes for a very simple explanation

well, i didn't say it was good deal! but, yes exactly, there is no separate payment of any kind... i just chose T-Bills as an example because they are so simple to understand.
