can someone not using meta draw and post a tl on the weekly? July 2012 till April 20012. (daily is good also). either we go to 2828/25 min then probably back to the tl at some piont... or 2928 soon... on the way to 266x... going back to 3097 is normal, but nothing is 100%,,, i get amazed many times when this happens.. it just does most times.

Trading industry uses C++ almost exclusively (or C for older systems). C++ is a loaded gun in the hands of uninitiated as it gives you the option to manipulate individual memory locations. That is good and bad in the same time. If you don't pay attention you can run memory leaks or try to access restricted areas (when your program) will get a fault signal and burn. Anyway, C++ was chosen at the time when Java was slow. That's not the case anymore. Java is more user friendly as all these nuts and bolts are hidden from you. Also, Java benefits a lot...


Bit long since you posted to answer, but I'll throw in my 2 cents for using C++. I've used both Java and C++ commercially in a system simulation environment. I was a code monkey for a system-on-chip/semiconductor verification/simulation company. We used C++ for the high performance simultator parts, Python for the simulator GUI/application surface and Java for a lot of our in-house tools.

So Java isn't as slow as it once was, but C++ is still a lot faster. A lot of the gap has been filled by hardware getting faster for most uses. The speed advantage is more than slight, especially once you start optimising and if you are pulling data from a database then C++ will be running faster than Java/JDBC. The issue of the wire isn't so big either. If you think about running lots of pairs off a cache of prior data and the network feed will be topping it up as you go, unless you are just looking at the now data and not holding a lot of prior data. Also if you are looking at back testing, you'll probably be running off a large dataset saved locally, the speed advantage can really pay off when you start looking at testing an algorythm across a range of inputs (varying the period for RSI with each run for example).
　
The similarities are great though and learning both would be well worth while as they both can have their place.
　
As for access to open source libraries, these abound for C++. C++ is one of the main languages of the GNU/Linux open source community so there is plenty of resources and support out there for free. Lots for Java too, but C++ doesn't lack at all.
　
As for hiding a lot of the nuts and bolts, C++ can do that too. Check out the Boost library. It's open source and contains a lot of abstractions and tools/algorythm implementations that speed things up. Check out their smart pointers too. They help protect from memory killing and provide some of the garbage collection that Java has. http://www.boost.org/
　
C++ has also always had good integration with R for statistics: http://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=155 and http://www.jstatsoft.org/v40/i08/paper
　
Since you are obviously looking at this for finance programming, check out the open source project QuantLib. It strives to be a full featured quantitative finance software support library. It was originally written in C++ [http://quantlib.org/index.shtml] but is also being translated into Java [http://www.jquantlib.org/index.php/Main_Page]. Being open source you can download and read all the code too. Great for seeing how other people have approached solving the problems.
　
Finally, check out Python. Python is an advanced scripting and prototyping language. It can call C++ libraries and has excellent Java integration [http://www.slideshare.net/onyame/mix...thon-and-java]. It can also integrate with R statistics [http://rpy.sourceforge.net/]. You can build up an idea in python to get it working then move the high performance bits into a C++ library.

thanks... here we are..some use tl.. would anyone place a fresh short at that... of course you may be right, and it drops directly from here a shitload.. it happens.. but as r/r goes is it worth the effort?
just an observation,, not a recommendation. and i am bearish and do think it breaks.. a bounce is a good thing to get some momentum, to get the break
