I think I'm having an epiphany in regards to trading.. LOL.. Afternoons are a little crazy here, so I'll probably come back to it tomorrow... if I still think it's an epiphany worth sharing.. LOL.

Yes the market is random, but the psychology of the masses is not.

Why does it matter if market is random or not? It doesn't matter at all.

Its all in how it makes the moves. After a day or two's ranging, it moves in seconds and minutes. 15 to 30 minutes in all. Is that not enough to figure out what to do?....................... Not a rocket science.

We see every thing in our charts, but not the speed, .........unless we have a mile long 1M chart.

Yes, this is the only thing that is not random, and it's what I was going to touch on.. You've got that spot on. There are consolidations followed by bursts in random directions pretty much..

Patterns reflects the psychology of the market, everything is included in a pattern if a personal flavour is added, because TA is not a science, it is an art form in which creative makes the difference.

Yesterday I took this megaphone pattern and shorted @ the arrow after 3 bullish candles and intervention.

The first bearish engulfing candle confirmed to me that it was worth taking my risk. Target not reached yet, but +1 risk is booked.

If one know how to read patterns, soon realise that everything is there and nothing else is needed to know.

This is what I think.

very entertaining topic from a philosphical point of view, got me thinking:

it's all about the terminology and its definition.. (oops, semantics)
random as in "lack of predictability" - agree; but instead one should focus on probabilities (eg patterns, indicators, news, whatever floats your boat)

random as in "having no definite aim or purpose; not sent or guided in a particular direction; made, done, occurring, etc., without method or conscious choice; haphazard" - partly agree
there is no aim in how market moves, it is not leading but following orders and offersalthough this generates a feedback loop. market is not guided I would say but is the manifestation of a communal choice which is the sum of everyone's individual conscious choice with a higher or lower degree of understanding where one's choice sits in relation to the sum of everyone elses choice..

Stochastics.................. check its three common limitations. Same is true for patterns

1. Boundaries
2. Continuity

there is no aim in how market...
We cannot predict the individual psychology, but we can predict to a degree mass psychology which is what moves the market.

The patterns that are created are due to price moving between the buy and sell orders.

The big money that moves the market can use patterns and trend lines to their advantage but they can't hide where on a chart where they are buying and selling.
