As I've said in the past on this thread this system has nothing to do with European Open time so ignore the Euro Open completely! It uses the 2 hours leading up to the London Open. I wish Paulus would update the rules as a lot of this thread is taken up with people understanding things incorrectly due to misleading rules.

So if direction of trade comes from 120 minutes period of time before London open (not between Frankfurt and London Opens) thats fully clear for me and i dont have any more questions in this matter.

The 2 hour spell prior to London encompasses japan end of day, middle east/russia started and most important mainland europeans (esp Germany/Swiss) at their desks even though primary markets not open but they are trading, and of course London desks filling up from around 7. So less to do with market opening times, more to do with actual activity. The 2 hour spell prior to london open is in this case a valid way to evaluate direction, BUT, london markets opening can change all that. Strada.

Determining trend that then offers a statistical edge is quite difficult to identify - so exactly how have you tweaked the directional assessment?

Yes I think working out the direction to trade is the most important part of this strategy, then look for a quality entry in that direction, eg if long look for a good support level and watch for a turn signal. Paulus's signal is as good as any at the right level of course.

Paulus has been using the 2hrs previous to London open as his direction but I think you have a very valid point that London very often kicks off in the reverse direction as you say to "position" themselves for entry.

That being the case it would make perfect sense for us to do the same. After all it never hurts to follow the big boys!

Question for you Paulus?

Would you consider an alternative way to finding the trend direction to trade?

Question for you sonicboom?

How would you recommend finding the right direction in the morning?

Hopefully if we all work together we can only improve what is already a very successful strategy.

Oh dear,

are the results Paulus achieves not enough. Why don't we throw on some mtf indies and a dashboard and trade all day!

Hi Sidefx and Clivepackham

I personally use the EMA 21 and 16 on H1/H4 (don't ask me about the mathematics, it works and if maths works 100%, we'll all be rich). I look at the high TF Weekly/Daily to visually see the move. If there is a trend, its easy to see it even without anything else but the eyes on these TF. I use these two EMAs on H4 and H1. Keeping it simple, I will not bring up other issues like PA and Supply/Demand zones, I use them to assist in being confident. Once the direction is determined, I now use Paulus' method for entry.

Regarding flowing together with the London market when they are repositioning, I'm not so ready to do that. I would rather wait it out until its moved to that position for an entry in the direction of the trend, as we may not know for sure if the repositioning has enough pips room for profit.

To add further, even after determining the trend from higher TF, for this strategy, I'd follow the H1 trend as highest priority.

In line with the sentiments of Grumbo, which I fully agree, this system was designed by Paulus to be simple. My inputs were to prevent unnecessary losses, which equate to gains.

Its just a simple EMA crossover so no need for a chart, sorry mate.

Any attempt to establish trend in order to trade post-london-market-open using 1 minute charts and with small SL's is a complete waste of time. You will get slaughtered trying to trade off 1 min using high t/f trends etc. May sound good in theory but is meaningless in reality.

Paulus is using a simple method of finding early bias (probably a better description than direction) and combined it with a method and MM that in recent times has given a very good return. If every loss is going to create demand for change then this thread will collapse. By all means look for improvement but don't bring them to the table until there is firm evidence or obvious advantage.

One thing that may be worth considering is price action immediately after a signal. There have been occasions on losing trades when price has not improved at all or by very little. In my own experience (several years trading off 1min charts) I always wait for some improvement in price before taking the trade on, in this instance I'd suggest 1 pip improvement (but calculation for SL and TP remain as per system ie based entirely on closing price of signal bar/candle).

I took the buy trade @1.2.682, SL @ 1.2670 (-> Stopped out)

after "some time" i took the same trade again. (re-enter)
now finished @1.2712

Two previous hourly candles define Up Trend.....at start of session.

I wouldn't start to guess the market - trade what you see, not what you think. We can't be right all the time...
