I will give you the data if you want to justify the numbers to your own satisfaction. Weekend gaps are not meaningless because they are very predictive in the very near term.

I would rather trade a gap that is counter-trend.

Maybe but keep track of those gaps. When the tides turn, the gaps will be filled eventually. Even if it takes months. It will become a great target.

I stopped trading. I closed out all my accounts except one for a bit of fun.

There are people here I care about and want to see make it.

When we saw Rob blow up big time, and a few other traders here we know, I doubled down to accomplish my goals so my tolerance for nonsense dropped quite a bit too.

This is community, but it's about our business first, so kindness sometimes is a deficit.

If it does not get get close to filling within 8 hours....a decision has to be made. A Weekend gap should never be the basis of a long term trade. We want in and out and will settle for 1/2 the gap.

I wasn't being insulting. 1% was generous.

you can draw an arbitrary line inside the weekly ATR and that's meaningful too. It's called perception based bias, but you see it as a tradable metric. Because you think it's valid you grow a bit of balls to take a trade and stick to it.

This works out part of the time too. No doubt.

To be certain it is important that we are talking about the same thing here. A weekend gap. It varies with the 7 different pairs that I follow but we are talking about a gap of 20--25 pips, anything less is ignored, between Fridays close and Sundays open.

Nevermind, I have the data.

I don't care about 8 hours. What I was saying was that eventually the gap will be filled. Thus, when the tide has turned it can become the basis for a long term trade.
Just one case in point is AUD/USD in NOV '11, a gap up @ .9734 has now been filled. I've saw the ame thing in other currency pairs, oil, etc., etc.

So it eventually can become the basis for a long term trade.

the gap you are looking at in euro isn't probably going to be filled unless we get a good momentum shift at least on daily tf. as for now, we got none so far.

gaps come back as a target eventually because they were hard to break in the first place.

I think there are two discussions going on here, so it can get confusing. If you have an interbank feed, there are typically no weekend gaps because the market doesn't close.

A market maker stops their price feed over the weekend, so if someone is arguing winning percentages of something that only exists on their market maker chart, and wants to say it's tradable, that's their choice.

some things make sense and others don't.
