Very true PT! It fooks with the overall trend to shake out the weaker players but all you need to do is look at the bigger picture to understand why price turns at certain points irrespective of fundamentals or news.

A great example of this recently is EURUSD turning at 1.2620 when everyone was shouting short because of the news and fundamentals, but if you look at the weekly timeframe, you can see why it turned there! Open the monthly, throw on a trendline and voila, we are still above that bullish trendline nearly touching it.

Many traders on FF are obsessed with the individual news annoucement without looking at the bigger picture.

In the case of EURUSD, all the EZ politicians are determined to keep the Euro and do what is necessary. The Euro is here to stay, fact! Look at the steps that Draghi has taken since he took over at the ECB.

Now if Greece defaults and leaves the Euro, which is a real possibility, a weaker country leaves the Euro currency leaving the stronger countries in the Euro currency. Now what do you think will happen to the Euro?

im gona give it a guess... the EURO will have a period of suffering.... no matter how big a picture you want it....
if greece were to quit the eurozone, first of all Debts to the Euro will be written off fully or partially
Fully would cause a huge dent in a lot of european bank, possibly causing the Major banks in Europe to collapse (something they are trying to avoid)

Partial debt writing off would mean the greeks still have to repay some of the debt... but i hardly see how the greeks being out of the EZ and having their own drachma, a currency of which they will surely devalue so much that it will never be able to repay the debt in Euro Value...

Fundamentally the EURO is a joke, as much as politicians try to keep it alive, they will not be able to keep a chronic illness completely cured without treating the source of this infection...
This means fiscal/political restructuring.
Too much power is given to a single country within the membership of the EuroZone

Thats my view anyways... love to see what people think otherwise..

Euro is a joke,so what you call a dollar then with 13trj $$ debt ? Second doesnt matter if country declares bankruptcy it still gonna have to repay every cent of its loans and debts like Germany did for WW1 and still does for ww2,except they might choose to repay it in 100 years time which will still make a huge dent,just to make it clear.

Banks will not collapse, they now have unlimited liquidity through LTROs. I agree that they need to cure the source of this infection and that cure is to remove the cancerous components (Greece, Portugal and any other countries that are incapable of balancing their books) and growth.

Ultimately, the monthly/weekly charts will tell us what will happen because the charts don't lie unlike politicians!

problem with the USD is that a lot of country's currencies are linked with the USD as a norm for trade... a luxury which the EURO doesnt possess.....
did i mention gold futures are dealt directly in USD??
gosh there are so many things linked to the USD that makes the USD practically invincible regardless with its debt...
as long as USD has a current account surplus, they can finance their debt
which if i remember it correctly... their current account trade balance is headed back/about to head back to positive... thats the reason why the debt in US is allowed to climb...

with regards to US and look at the Dollar Index chart over the last 50 years, that is one hell of a downtrend!

Don't know about every cent but over time inflation will erode any debt.
