The CTR uses a trap door to open a trade. In other words price must got beyond the BB line and then the MA must also. This causes a delay in the entrance hoping to catch the trade as it recedes back to the median instead of while it is still going up. See the pic below. In the pic you will see 3 black #1, 3 Blue #2, and 3 green X's. The #1 show a normal entrance for a bollinger band trade. The #2 show the CTR trade. The CTR trade is caused when the yellow 3MA crosses the 1 deviation band of the Bollinger Band (BB). So you can see especially at the third #1 where the entrance is delayed when price spikes or runs on the BB. This was designed to protect your entrance on news spikes and runners to give you a better entrance. On regular trades you still get an entrance that is close to the normal BB entrance. You see in the first #1 you would be giving up a handful of pips on the entrance. The 2nd trade you are about the same area of entrance but the third one you gain a lot of pips on the entrance.

If you can understand how this EA works it can save you a lot of headaches. Here is how it would work with the EUR/JPY in an UT but with this EA you still can make pips. Every single trade at one point was at a +20 to +40 at some point. The delayed entrance makes it work really well. Just be careful when you take a profit or close that it doesnt immediately reenter on you. So turn the EA if you close a trade. See pic below for more explanation:

#1 trade enters at the yellow line crossing price is up at the green X. Price goes over 20 pips before heading back up again. If you brought your SL up to BE or +5 you have a good trade.

#2 Same as trade 1 20+ pips

#3 Depending on how long you held the trade you could have gone from +20 to over +100

#4 shows the patience of this EA. Price had broken the lower BB 16 hours before but the EA held out until much later and entered at point #4. This then became a very successful trade.

When I tested this EA I had a day in which the aud/usd went down over 160 pips for the day. The EA picked up over 120 pips on buys. So I almost got as many pips going against the trend than I would have gotten with the trend. Anyway the logic goes like this. When the yellow 3MA is higher/lower than the 1 deviation of the BB and the bid is higher/lower than the 1 deviation of the BB enter.

I use this EA when price is ranging but if price does a sudden breakout or run then it also protects me from either all or most of the run. So it is one of my favorite EAs to use especially when I multi level trade.

I also developed a 1H CTR EA which trades more often but quit using it during the Euro crisis. I feel price is too volatile at this time to use that EA. But that EA is great during the summer months when price is not so volatile.

Generally that EA will give you 2-4 trades a week on most currencies.

hi bob, regarding the ctr system there's an issue: the bb's are calculated on price close then it's not infrequent that the entry point is quite different fron the one seen in a visual backtest...
i solved this setting the ma as a EMA 4 period shift 1 price OPEN and the bbs as 18 PERIODS PRICE_OPEN, in this way the point seen on the chart is the same that will be traded...
my 2 pips...(i'm working on this features since november and it works really good....) sometimes the movement on the current bar of the bb creates false entry points that when they pass (ie when u look back at the chart) they absolutely don't qualify as a correct entry point! (sources: 3 months of charts studying different approaches to fix this issues!!)

Sorry to seem a bit thick but where can I find the CTR 4hr EA, it looks good and I'd like to play with it. I have tried to look everywhere in the thread but cannot see it

Thanks for the clarifications. My principal "headache" is when to enter the trade. Are you saying the one should enter on the OPEN of the bar once the MA crosses the BB? Or is it the close or something in between?

Actually it is the BB crossing the MA line. The MA line is shifted one forward so it is ahead of the BB and needs the BB band to cross it on the open of the bar. So it will not enter until the new bar opens. This keeps the EA out of the trade during the price run up. Also there were some updates put in the 10.0 #3 folder which corrected some of the too late entries of the original version. Price and MA line must be above the BB dev. 1 line for it to enter.

Sounds solid. I have been testing a 10MA High/Low so it doesnt enter on some of the dips. I will look at your numbers later. Thanks.

even if, actually, i don't trade h4 anymore...i use it on daily loooooooots of pips more with 15 pairs (13-14 trades per cross per year with an average of 100 pips each with the leverage i use equals a lot of money...) ... less fake signals and runners... i trade ctr daily and trend following H1 with a different configuration of the original h1 trend trading.. on D1 if candles take a particular shape i use a moving average as a trailing stop giving me, sometimes, tons of pips! on H1 as soon as i get 25pips i activate the moving average trailing stop so that i can ride some good trades, and put (before reaching the first target of 25) a SL on the first swing (some pips above or below)... it works great!
on h1 only eursd and erujpy as the ratio Spread/AVG ATR makes them interesting.. pairs like gbpusd are too volatile and others like audusd are not.. so they trip stops too often...
i really feel good with this setup!
but hey, as i'm commercial i've tighter constraints than u all guys..so scoring a 30-40% per year is great for my clients (and for my bonus!! definitely!!)..the issue is reducing DD that's why i trade this system on daily, with a leverage of 0.5.. adjusting it for the avg atr and for the pip value: eurtry has a D1 avg atr of 350pips (it can spyke 1000 pips in a day!!) but the pip value is around 4 euro so i've to adjust the leverage for this.. eurgbp pip value is 12 so can't use the same leverage of try or nzd... calculating for each pair pip value and avg atr means for me adapting better to the market controlling the risk better...
people are strange: they want loooots of profits but no DD at all... to easy...! u gotta suffer a little bit to truly appreciate your profit at the end of the year!!

ps actually, as i think about it i definitely transformed the original trading system in something that's more my own(i use trend lines, candle pattern etc).. i think that this should be everyone's goal: have something yours! the starting point isn't important.. the goal absolutely yes!

Bob, hope you are enjoying the Chinese New Year. Enclosed is another example of a trade from Friday on the EURNZD. I have added some details to the chart on the ideas. I am waiting on the EURAUD to retest and take that position, as a clear break has been made of support.

Here is my GBPUSD trade. On the 1H chart at the time my TP#1 was close to being hit and has now reached target at the time of this writing. Second order remains with SL still at 1.5835. If the pair decides to bounce off of 1.5734 and re-test 1.5800, my breakeven stop loss is above the new resistance zone and out of the way, in hopes of bouncing and heading back down to make a lower low and continue the trend lower. The reason my stop now on order #2 is breakeven is because order #1 hit TP for the same amount of pips as my stop loss. This is how you avoid getting taken out on the re-test of new resistance/previous support.

This one was taken somewhat early from the daily read, but I liked it due to the trendline break at the same time on the 1H. I did include the daily chart to show where this was taken, which is in between the 2MA and 8MA.

Now, since my TP #1 has been achieved, we sit and wait for it to play out. If it does not want to trend lower, I am breakeven or better and wait for the next opportunity. If it does move down lower and begin a retracement, order #1 was 1:1 RR and order #2 would be 1:3.9 RR, which would be a very nice return on the trade.

I hope this confirms more on the concepts of taking the re-test vs. the break on the entry.

Really sorry with such basic concern, but I'm confused after unzipping all files from the post 1 listing all the versions of these EAs.

So I read the install manual, which I could not understand well which version we have to keep, especially with 3 different TFs.

After unzipping all files of post 1 I found 17 files in experts folder and I guess some of them are outdated.

Could someone here pinpoint exactly which file is unnecessary (EAs + Indy) and good to remove : Below a snapshot of the contents of my experts as well as indicators folder
