Another item for your fundamental list...and a biggie on my calendar.
The socalled US appointed super committee better agree by 1st week of Nov otherwise trillions in automatic spending cuts kick in.
Depending on that outcome its possible that the US could face another downgrade by all the reporting agencies.
There are two thing the US has that Europe doesn't.
1. A unified country with a central fiscal authority.
2. Untapped energy resources.
Europe is politically fragmented and depends on imported energy.
#1 may change in the future for Europe, but Energy will always be imported.

I agree with PT in his previous post. IMO, that is more in the wishful thinking that in reality. Is true that Poland may have big shale gas but there are key problems that won't be solved in a long long time. First is not completely proven, second is exploitation and third is regulation....""Green"""(big brackets there) europe will require a massive change in their regulation frameworks if shale ever come true as the environmental consequences are way too high and the political cost will be immense.

We need to wait, agree on that. It is still few years to come. But if these resources are as big as estimates, then at least gas will be European. In Poland first estimates were made some time back in the past - am unsure, but I think I found some theoretical babbling about it dated before I was born. But in these time it was unthinkable for a Soviet Union satellite to have its own natural gas source. And the technology was not yet developed. Right now the biggest threat is the fact, that Russia is trying everything in their toolbox to prevent it. From supporting naive "greenies", to buying concessions they don't intend to use. Vladimir knows what he is doing and he knows how to play it well. So its up to european politics, if they stop him or fail.
And Germany and their pipeline - if I earn enough money, then I am hiring a boat, diving suit, and I nice drill to show them what I think about it

Economic interests will always sway politics, but with a very fragmented political structure and the resulting differences in economic interests, I agree with sisse that such an undertaking will take years to even reach some kind of agreement, let alone the actual exploration and extraction.

One important thing to note. In eastern Europe "green" means "pro-russian" (only some don't know it yet). And Eastern Europe will do anything to get independent from russian resources. Therefore, maybe in Western Europe shale gas will be hard to pass politically, but it will be much easier in Eastern Europe.

I see your point. Agree in most and very valid. That's exactly my point that Energy sector will divide Europe more than create a common ground. Russia is too big to mess for the "old" Western Europe and short term they are getting better bang for the buck free riding (i.e germany) and negotiating bilateral agreements with the obvious costs and problems in the long run of energy dependency with Russia ...In all this game eastern Europe is just collateral damage in both sides....sad but true...

Until they find it, it cannot be considered. The US already know they have it. It's just a matter of economics and politics.
I really do hope Europe finds Gas (and oil) as it will be a gift from heaven for them.
Right now it's using LPG, but it has almost tripled price since I started using it... compared to gasoline, which rose about 40% since then, it is too much.

countries that have a lot of youth are projected to have the highest economic growth in the future. like indonesia
and im gonna make 5% of the growth lol
im still quite basic in macroeconomic analysis theories and bases, but is the resources becoming the major deal on all this?
i need the foundations of where to base analysis of the economy.
resources, (i still dont find it as big a deal.. yet), financial standpoint, supply and demand of investors, GDP growths, seeing previous crises and how it was solved aka using past events to pprobabaly indicate what might happen in a next crisis, cause and effect analysis, international trade, monopoly, oligopoly, taxes, risk etc. thats all i know so far

Okay, Napoleon did, but when he was close to the capital most of his troops abandoned him, desertion among Polish ones was one of the lowest. And they still celebrate the day when they finally managed to get us out

Resources are assets that produce tax revenues for the state.
Most leading and emerging economies have many competing resources such as productive workers and companies that employ them.
However, those who also have vast water, metal and energy resources, will always have an advantage.
