I know why now.

Buy trades are taken at the Ask price, yet the Bid is the line shown on the chart. The high of any candle is the highest Ask price.

Show the Ask line on your chart and you will see that it can go higher than previous candle high + 1 without this showing on your chart.

The simplest solution would be to include the spread in the trade trigger calculation. At the mo, it only includes the value of MinCandleBreak.

Another solution is to base the decision to send a buy trade on the Bid. Sing out whichever one you prefer.

As I was waking up this morning the same thought came to me. The EA is looking at the ask price for a buy. So I think we have to base the decision on the bid price for a buy as you said. I think the trigger bar indicator lines need to be based on the bid price when looking for a buy also. See the cart below. Indicator lines found this trigger bar but the bar doesn't have a higher low. I think it thought it was a trigger bar since it was looking at the ask price.. I'm going to watch but haven't seen a sell trade yet with the latest version. thanks

Last trigger bar was more than three bars away so this trade shouldn't have happened. I had just clicked the Expert Advisor button off then on if that has anything to do with it? If this is the case EA will be trading on stale trigger bars as soon as we turn the platform on. Steve, I'm not trying to bombard you but I don't want you to see these problems in drips and drabs as you put it. Really appreciate you working on this.

Sell trade (hadn't seen one until now) here had no trigger bar.

This sell worked perfectly. Lower high, lower low trigger candle(indicator framed it correctly), below the 50 SMA and trade opened at the break of this candle.

I needed to re-order some of the function calls and T needed some extra logic. See how this one does.

Now we're talking. Several trades spot on buys a sells . This version as far as I can tell is doing everything right except one thing. And this isn't a new rule so don't flame me. See post #49.The EA needs to only look forward (not backwards)for the trigger bar after price has closed above/below the MA. I was watching this chart and when that green pin bar (5th from the right) closed it was actually above the MA. The EA at that point, framed the trigger bar behind it instead of looking ahead for a trigger candle. thanks much

Explain to me how an ea can look forward into the future and I will code it, to the immense delight of every single trader who ever tried to trade anything.

I'm getting a 131 error code when I try to back test. I never ask the question cause I didnt wont to look stupid but this system and EA from Toothman and steve looks promissing. any help would be great

Hi Toothman

Currently trying out your system, but using manual entry - currently long on AUD/JPY.

A boggling number of entry candles show up using your new entry criteria. In my humble opinion though it seems that the best/most reliable trigger candle is the first one after the cross or straddle of the 50SMA.

Did you ever draw up a short list of 'best' currencies?

Ok, the problem occurs when price is bouncing around the 50SMA. I'll show you on a chart what the EA did and then I'll explain what it should have done.
What the EA did -
Bar #1 - closed below the MA so EA is looking forward for the next trigger bar. This is good. This is what I mean by looking forward.
Bar #2 - trigger bar identified by EA. This is good.
Bar #3 - the low of #2 is not broken so no sell yet . This is good.
Bar #4 - goes above the 50 SMA and identifies #3 as a new trigger bar. This is bad. It looked back for a trigger bar when it should be looking forward for the next trigger bar. Ea then makes a buy trade based on the #3 trigger bar. This is bad.
What the EA should have done -
Bar #1 - bar closes below MA so EA is looking forward for the next trigger bar.
Bar #2 - EA identifies trigger bar and is waiting for the break of it's low to enter trade.
Bar #3 - No break of the low on trigger bar so EA still waiting.
Bar #4 - closes above the MA so EA is looking forward for the next trigger bar to form with a HH/HL.
Bar #5 - forms a trigger bar and EA is waiting for the break of it's high to enter a buy trade. If however #5 at any time breaks the low of #2, a sell trade should open since we haven't gone 3 bars from trigger bar #2 yet. Price doesn't break the low of #2 so #5 is the new trigger bar.
Bar #6 - price hasn't broken the high of #5 so EA waiting for three bars to see if it will.

If this can't be coded then we'll have to try to catch all the trades we can manually.

Price advanced far enough for BE to be set on this trade but EA didn't set it.

Something else I noticed is that stop loss on a sell trade is getting hit based on the ask price when it should be based on the bid price. Stop loss on a buy should begetting hit by the bid price also.

EA took a trade earlier that has run in my favor . Something is not right though with alerts for that pair sounding with every tic. SL is getting changed with every tic. Any ideas programmers?

This is a very simple strategy that should be pretty simple to code correctly. I think it deserves a nice ea for testing. You know you have the free time!!
