The one big difference between the USD and EUR is that...
if you add in future debt of a aging population comparable to europe and japan.. the u.s. is not in great shape... just better then the other 2. add in some interest w/o the ability to pay off current debt or even keep up with the interest and this is a bad situation.

  1. How US Gross Debt to GDP: 143% sound to you?

  1. How 55.5 Tln USd total US Debt sound ?

  1. or.total debt /per family = $680.344; or total debt /citizen = $178.333


or how may Textiles industries are operating in NEW YORK state ?

my POINT.. EUR/USD is denominated in USD.. as I can understand the temporary spikes in CHF, but USA is not in better shape.. as Trichet said.. DONT bet against EUR.. from fundamental point, EUR economy is in better shape then US

just my 2ct. and very basic economic knowledge. the eu is 10 years old, the us >230 years, and the eu has to buy its own debt after these 10 yrs. we don't share culture, we don't know much about one another, heck, we don't like each other... we weren't asked to board a Mayflower.

1. go back and grab some history books,and try to find How OLd is EUR economy, and how US economy started... lol
2. then, go and read some history on money markets, who rule, manage and own them.
3. then, go and learn the purpose of the central banks, how they started, FED's and BIS...

the chart says it all. if you go down a list the u.s. dont make a lot of stuff anymore. televisions or buggy whips either. but whats that got to do with currency... anything is only worth its present value. the demand at a given moment decides what direction we move. not you me or whatever. in this foot race you don't have to outrun the lion. just be faster then the next guy. atm the ez is limping. the lions know this and smell blood. banking is in the shitter and no commodities. all that is left is manufacturing and tourism. both would benefit with a cheaper euro. dont forget that clock you post has a bunch of welfare state defense money in it for Europe and japan

i recently read a statement where this was negated for the simple reason that we export more into ez itself than outside. i don't know if can find that one again, or any data undermining this.

well the u.s. contrary to what others think manufacture 85% of what it uses. so we only export 15%.. last quarters cheaper u.s. and via to the usd the c. won im sure products are creeping in the ez economy. and if they are gonna buy bonds im sure they want a place at the table.

no, that's not the right thing to do.

in the past, i have said more than once, that eg german unemployment numbers are not the real numbers, because the published statistics have been tweaked beyond recognition. so far, so good, but market of course reacts to what is published. the underlying problem remains the same. less and less people actually work in germany. we have slightly more than 80 million inhabitants, but only about 28 million people working... think about that. how long can those people keep the country afloat?

the next thing is, they are doing everything to seal the contracts in favor of a european government before the next election. they know the results beforehand if people became aware of their intentions. and more and more do. there is no secret source for these things, they are just not published on the frontpages.

another thing is, what media tells the ordinary people about why greece, ireland and so on need help. they are very keen on creating envy, and they succeed among the working people. why should they work until 67, when a greek can retire at ~50-55?

we had that situation before, didn't we? do not forget that germans killed 6 million people, just because they were told that those were bad. nobody ever saw it... they were just told.
