You can change parameter use_slow_sma and use_adx.

I am suspicious of your start time PipBear, looking at my chart and where my trade started the price didn't move all that high.
Any chance of posting your chart so we can see your start candle?

i think its my mistake....i thought sl 140 very high and try to reduce it to 100....hmmmmmmm......
i should left it at 140 i guess.....its ok...better luck next time....

I tried to use adx as filter with v7....
backtest 2009.05.04-2010.05.06
1) v7(normal,197sma) - win 91x2(98.97%), loss 1x2(1.03%), total 4302.9pips
2) v7(adx(14)>=20 instead of 197sma) - win 130x2(97.01%), loss 4x2(2.99%), total 5224.7pips
3) v7(adx(14)>=20 and 197sma) - win 80x2(100%), loss 0(0%), total 3722.5pips
1) v7(normal,197sma) 98.9%win

My entry was at 1.4828 and the highest candle went to 1.4935 only 107 pips above my entry, even allowing a few pips for spread it would not have reached my stoploss.

Because this thread is promoting the use of EA's it has quite naturally attracted the attention of people that are familiar with the use of EA's and people that have no previous experience with EA's.
Looking through the posts it is quite evident that particularly the ones with little or no experience are not necessarily addressing the risk issue involved in using EA's.
You must bear in mind that when testing an EA we use historical data and when optimising the settings we are "curve fitting" our settings based upon the average values of this historical data.
In short, we are making broad assumptions that the market will continue in the same manner for the forseable future, which is inherently dangerous.
Because I use EA's for all my trading I have a rule not to risk more than 1% per trade with any EA and then to use more than one EA at the same time, each EA adds to my profit and should one of them suffer a loss its effect on my total account is lessened.
Also, for those less experienced users, I'm afraid that running an EA on your home computer or laptop is not a good idea because any interruption to the working of MT4 could result in your EA failing to monitor open trades.
You should really consider using a vps so that your EA is working 24/5 or there is an alternative offer from forex.com that looks almost too good to be true, i.e. free EA hosting, provided you have an account with them.

When I saw your chart your entry time was exactly the same as mine, the 140 stoploss is high but it gets us over the occasional "bumps" caused by the Asian session 9 times out of 10 and it was derived from the optimiser tool as a compromise value.

from an EA virgin.I'm running all my strat's on demo accounts at the moment (i'm still quite new to forex, but and old dog ar spreadbetting) I'm finding it really hard to keep up with this thread as it's adding pages everyday, but i've learned more off this thread then any other about EA's.

This is excellent Taiyakixz I must add this to the EA and test it, your top chart looks exactly like mine so I am sure I will get the same result as you!

I don't know if shift=1 is better, I didn't test it.
I noticed that many loss trade occured when 10 sma was flat, so I wanted to avoid it.
Your start time is exactly the same as mine but my stoploss easily kept me in the trade through the Asian session.
My entry was at 1.4828 and the highest candle went to 1.4935 only 107 pips above my entry, even allowing a few pips for spread it would not have reached my stoploss.
You are spot on, it is exactly the same trade.
I guess the only mistake I have made is reducing the SL to 75. It's now back to 140 which as you indicated was the setting reached through optimisation.
