I gotta catch some Z's. I closed most of my shorts @ BE+1 unfortunately. I still have a few running with tight SL's but I gotta sleep. THis greece news in a few hours will cause a bump, Im still thinking this is buy the rumor sell the news. I closed my cable short for 45 pips and my other one from last night closed @+100 on stop. That dang australian UE data kind of threw me off.
My idea is just that the news in European countries and general sentiment in certain countries is probably close to how it was here(US) in late sep early oct 08. Everyone is kind of scared with their money to invest I would assume worried about jobs etc...(there are still more skeletons in the closet for other euro countries too) not that the dollar is ""strong" but I just don't see EU strength for too long(short term). Definitely still a retrace imo (medium term).

flight to safety?

[OIL] Putting on the frighteners as, after the US freezing the assets of 4 Iranian companies, the Iranian OM has stated that its Natanz facility has the capacity to boost uranium to much higher levels near term. The nuclear dispute continues to rumble around in the background, although so far its direct effect on oil prices has waned, partic with trade talk yest of four idle/partly loaded tankers in Iranian ports.

After the release of the Q4 GDP figures which showed a contraction for a 7th consecutive quarter, [SPAIN'S ECON MIN SALGADO] provides some reassurance commenting markets will return to economic fundamentals but must keep from short term speculative reactions. Speaking on RNE radio, Salgado thinks the EU summit on Greece will see leaders reach a mutual agreement on the countries finances. Returning to domestic matters, she believes fiscal measures carried out by the Spanish govt are sufficient as she went on to say there are no plans to cut public sector wages for now. She also pointed out that welfare is the most important priority and reducing the deficit is second to that. Note, the Spanish premia vs Bunds has contined to narrow, along with the EMU periphery trend, with the spread vs its peer in to 73bp vs 80.9bp late yest.

FRANKFURT, Feb 11 - Euro zone economic growth is going to be moderate this year and inflation is likely to be subdued in the medium-term, the European Central Bank on Thursday.
As usual, the editorial was virtually identical to the Governing Council's latest policy statement, read out by President Jean-Claude Trichet last Thursday, after the 16-country bloc's central bank kept interest rates on hold at 1.0 percent last week.
"Looking ahead, the Governing Council expects the euro area economy to grow at a moderate pace in 2010," the editorial said.
"The recovery process is likely to be uneven and the outlook remains subject to uncertainty."
The editorial also said inflation pressures are expected to remain subdued over the policy-relevant horizon and that the current interest rates are appropriate

0907 GMT The key pivot for EUR/USD is 1.3860 says Barclays Capital. While below here the bank holds a bearish view and targets of 1.3270, however a weekly close above 1.3775 or a break above 1.3860 will force a reassessment and open risk toward 1.4030. EUR/USD now at 1.3755. (GST)
