I have been trading for more than 20 years on a professional level. My result have been audited and published. That does not mean I am perfect, know all or seen everything. But it does mean that I have a lot of experience, made more mistakes than most and have taken 6 figure hits.

It is very common on this thread and others like, for the terms trend, retrace and reversal to be tossed around with an expectation of a result. What is missing from many (not all) in the evaluation is a degree of probability. The number of bars I am using are only for an example. It has no meaning in how I do my analysis.

If on a monthly chart, the last 6 bars have lower highs and lows with the close on the lower 1/3, and you were going to trade positions based on a weekly chart, the probability is price is down.

If on a weekly chart the last 4 bars have lower highs and lows with the more recent close on the lower 1/3, and you were going to trade based on a daily chart, the probability is price is down.

This continues down to a tick chart being impacted by a 10 tick chart.

HOWEVER

Without support from much longer timeframes, the probability or risk attached to going long on a 5 minute chart which is supported by a 15 minute chart, but against a monthly, weekly and daily chart is like a VW thing going up a dirt road thinking it is going to drive into and push an earthmover up the hill.

It might be OK for someone who is using gambling money to prove they were right, but it is not for capital that is trying to make significant returns with the goal of growing much larger sums over the log haul.

Probability is the key anyway, in any strategy we trade is all about mm related to the probability so it's pure simple logic, we're all taking "bets" related to probability here. Your post makes sense anyway, I'd like to read more of yours'.

Daily charts points down for new bars to come, it's in the same channel as yesterday's bearish candle, this is just going...down. No way to close above 1.60 as i tought when we were trading at that price so sell is the only way to go.
A close under the low would kill cable.

All respect.

HOWEVER....

Not always successfully, by some recognition of the trends, retraces and reversals, there is profit to be made off of them shorter time frames, if the 15m is supported by the 5m and so on, with trend and counter.

Secondly...after some recognition of the longer time frame trends, watching the lower time frames can allow for a better position. Why buy/sell mid channel and hold for at a loss, when with proper patience and a little understanding better positions are available.

You had mentioned that there are bots and software programs that trade several thousand times per hour, making pennies...a forever hold or a longer term trade can easily go against you.

We still are in a channel, and depending on the time frame you choose to trade, you still get to pick whether you are a bear or a bull....and when the best time to take a position is.

I believe a lot of the traders here, are the smaller time frame traders, from the hourly to the 15m trends...Implying that each is gambling may not be 100% wrong, but I think does paint everybody with the same brush.

Watching how the smaller time frames develop, in time, can lead to a better understanding of how the longer time frames will. Charting patterns are quite similar from the weekly through to the 5m, near as I can see, as because I watch all of them have a greater understanding of the overall.

Where is true bottom, Where is true top?

Even as a 20 year vet, and again with all due respect, I would go money, marbles or chalk in any wager against all of the best guesses, this would surely prove to be an easier way to make money then by my own speculation of the same.
