Let's look at what is possible:

1) He does not mention monetary policy

Outcome-- perhaps slightly bullish. The stated Fed policy remains intact... intrest rates low for an extended period. Impact limited.

2) He hints at higher rates in the near future.

Outcome. Hello 4625 area, maybe more. Trend change likley.

3) He restates Fed Policy of low rates.

Outcome-- This was just a dip. We jump back inside the daily channel and resume our upward march.... (and my wife get's a new car for Christmas!)


This is just how I see it.... I could be now and have been wrong before!

[BERNANKE ON EXIT STRATEGY] Bernanke says the Fed's balance sheet expansion will not lead to inflation, that the Fed has the tools to withdraw stimulus. The Fed is committed to keeping inflation low and will be able to do so. The Fed can sell assets from its balance sheet, if necessary. Even if the Fed's balance sheet remains 'swollen" the funds rate can be raised to tighten policy. Raising rates on bank reserves at the Fed will be an important tool to tighten policy. Back on the inflation outlook, he says wage and price trends are slowing due to economic slack, and that long-run inflation expectations are stable. High unemployment and stable expectations could push inflation lower, and will at least keep it stable.

Nothing will change. Policy stays the same but they are going to keep an eye on things (of course) and make sure the naughty banks are better capitalised.

There is no reason to raise rates if there is no inflation threat (except for all the cry baby politicans around the world). Low intrest rates and weak dollar are good for USA right now.
