Very new to FX trading and had several questions for people after reading the posts and from experience.

 

  1. What is the pip amount set up for a limit close and pip amount for a stop?
  2. How many trades at the same time (3 is the most I have done - once. Most is a single trade at a time).
  3. What is the recommended initial amount funded to an account. I have read 5k, 10k, 25k. I wanted to get thoughts from others who do trade.

I ask the first question as I have set up stops at approx. 50, 70, 75 pips. I have gotten stopped out with the pair soon turning for what would have been a very profitable trade.

i look at it like this. i have to have X amount of lossers to be a winner in the long run.. i dont enter until a retrace even if i miss a trade. i do other things as a ambush with a set sl before i enter. place a be and let it do whatever......... my sl are tighter but my r/r has expanded. i miss many trades...many by 1 or 2 pips. but my sl may be just 5 and catch 100....

I assume in a demo mode you did not have such issues, most do not. A lifetime ago, I had a trading operation and traders not following my rules became my biggest issue. They had hard clear signals, and did not execute properly. It became necessary to create teams to solve the problem.

You need to inventory if you think it is fear/greed based or being arrogant. If it is fear/greed based, you "may" find it helpful to trade at a penny a pip, until it becomes so mechanical to you, that you look at things in percentages or pips, instead of dollars. Once one cares about the result in $$ terms as opposed to caring about the trade, they are done. There is endless self deal making, internal dialog, promises and compromise.

If you can carry out your plan with stops and limits, it can help - as you can walk away from the monitors.

An option might be to team up with someone and find a trading buddy. That you both clear with one another what you are doing with your orders. The ego hates to tell another ego, it did not do what it agreed to.

Well you were right about being slightly short about 12 hrs ago. I just took a loss and did hold onto it.

Are you still SHORT or you looking for a LONG now?

Looks like you'll be taking your trading to another level.

If we stay solvent in this business long enough some get this point of "Realization". The market doesn't care if you've had a string of 50 winners. It doesn't care that you had a good entry, the market will turn on you in a second.

You can have a 95% win rate and lose in this business by just mismanaging one trade! At the same time you can have a 40% win rate and do very well in this business!

Always manage your risk and take your rewards often.

well, now I'm flat.

In fact the value 5033 is a very important level , from the standpoint of the Gann angles .The loss of this level would lead us in a relatively large drop, even if the time is not ideal.
Personally I will wait the opening of the new session to decide something. do not hurry now.

Is it a real possibility that Bernanke doesn't get confirmed? Please tell me as I'm not so familiar with the detail of US political life. Also if he isn't confirmed, what reaction would you expect? I'd say at least 200-300 pips in EUR/USD in 5 minutes or so. And the Dow down a double digit percent.

you might be using same system indicator...
anyway I am waiting another 2,3 hours to start to think a position.
