psttt its cold... tranports arent shipping. rails have 10s of thousands of idle locomotives. if i recall correctly about 40k nation wide. i never thought we even had that many.. oh and a company called catipillar.. they move stuff i think... but dont tell anyone. its top secret.

Btw, most of ubs and deutsche bank traders are selling EUR at the moment, buying mostly dollars...Don't know for american banks...

The chart you posted is not properly scaled. Expand the thumbnail so you can see the tops, and look at April 20, 2008 and July 13, 2008 tops on the weekly, that's what a double top looks like.

Yea I thought so, that's what most people think. But in this crisis it all got kinda messed up. Quantitative easing failed, believe it or not it wasn't done aggressively enough. Consequently banks will remain unwilling to lend and the crisis will drag on(equity markets plunges, USD increases..). They have taken short-term interest rates as low as possible,but failed at pushing down longer-term rates as well!

Why QE failed would take 10 pages to explain, but remember when QE takes place, it is in "normal" circumstances supposed to incease money supply, consequently we get depreciation of currency..

This time money supply, did not increase cause QE was combined with stimulate packeges(bailout money..) and banks did not stick to primary agreement to lower long term interest rates(ARMs,ALT-a..),but they used all the money to cover the losses from Credit default swaps(many of the naked..), CDOs, MBS, ABS..and "all" the money simply "vanished"...+ most of that money is gonna have to be paid back, and it will be taken out of the system, That will decrease money supply tremendously...

As u can see, they are trying to prevent the losses on all those complex financial instruments that are "sucking in" all that money (that is supposed to decrease value of dollar )by abolishing mark -to- market model, but even that doesn't help..Hey, but at least we got this " fake Goldman Sachs" equity market rally

I don't wanna bother u with all the details, but unless they "print" at least 2-3 times amount of money they already did, Quantitative easing should even have the reverse impact on USD.With all that money banks are probably gonny try try to increase the value of dollar against EUR, so they can payoff debt to European Banks(those already mostly nullified their obligations to US banks-.)

This crisis really is something special, especially because even most of the experts u see on tv, don't really know how fucked up us economy really is...

thanks for a detailed response. BOE policy action is a work in progress...no? They have plenty of reasons to expand.

Yep UK. is another story. BOE already spent about £175bn on this new QE policy. And i think it is allowed to spend about £25bn more without asking the Treasury..

As u know, EU member states are not allowed to finance their public deficits by printing money. That is one reason why BOE is gonnal buy government bonds from financial institutions, not directly from the government.

The BOE believes that this form of QE is different because it is "printing money" as part of monetary policy , like preventing deflation!

QE should work there as planned
