Yeah S&P really taking a hit. If the S&P and Dow turns negative, well the euro will.... enough said.

Good point, equities are starting to take profit off the table cause they know that there is a pretty bumpy ride ahead. This could be the beginning of the correction, including for the euro as I think we might need a breather before making new annual highs on the EURUSD, dow, S&P, Nasdaq and Oil.

Representative sample sizes (400 or so right?) is one thing, wishful thinking by those 5000 families who know their answer will affect the stock markets (and therefore their 401k's) is another.

Even though there is resistance, looks like the hedge and mutual funds still coming in and buying anything they can with the slightest pull back. The big question is when will they stop doing that?

In general you can say if you 4-fold your sample size the statistical error gets cut in half. You can imagine that you will reache a point where adding more and more People or whatever doesn't make any sense. That point is reached pretty quick. For elections most Opinion Research Centers take a sample size of 1000 randomly picked persons which ensures that the small scale reflects the bigger picture because you have a very heterogenous pool of people. In that case forcasts have a error of +/- 1%. It simply would not make any sense wasting cash by asking another 5000 people because your results will only change slightly.

Getting down to the maths would make everything pretty boring at that point. I hope I could statisfy your question.
