When it comes to hedging with UC it seems like its a bad idea to try it when your almost in crisis on a position but not really in crisis. If a range is pushing the point where theres going to be a breakout against you, I'm learning that pulling the trigger on a hedge too soon is a big mistake. Obviously it can turn around on you and go back in your original direction. Then your just marginal on your original position but in a loss with your hedge. So you really need to be losing some money first, so it seems.

true dat, stock index correlation worth watching on low tf, but not what it once was... was looking for some DJIA profit taking at day's end but it may not come..

The one to watch is the S&P 500 spiking back above the 888 level, just for the european close.

Let's see if it can close above it. It's @ 898.5 now...

This is an amateur question but I'm very new to trading the eur/usd. Does the S&P usually trend the same way as the eurusd? I noticed the movements were identical today.

below is daily chart with comparison eur/usd and s&p500
as you can see corellation is quite small
sp500 is well corelated with JPY crosses

US indexes are somewhat correlated to the dollar. The eurusd being the anti-dollar, this explains why eurusd and the US indexes are somewhat correlated.
This correlation will vary with time, and shouldn't be sufficient to give trade signals, but could give clues to paint the bigger picture with other sources like usdchf, gold, oil, commodities currencies...

We have somewhat strong correlation now because a lot of markets are at inflexion points and ranging (especially because of the summer slower season and the earning season that kicks off this week), waiting for the next direction to be taken.
Getting it right is NOT as important as not getting it wrong.

They are usually headed the same direction but today they did not trend the same. SPX went up 2% wile E/U resented any pressure up and the big dog did it's best to keep it at bay. We will see E/U further making lows (I expect a break short of the new triangle formed) - as soon as SPX goes down again it's show time. This week, not later.
