Is this the same as the long walk! Feels like it could be the same thing. The channel up and channel down are full of wreakage, maybe best to scalp short term until a direction is established, or another hole in the side of an account could occur.

You can check gold futures if you have access to it, or some fx brokers gives real time gold/silvers quotes too. Just open a demo account, if your current broker don't offer gold quotes.

Not usre who your service provider is but mine runs commodity option, so I put up charts along side my key currencies and keep eye on movement. For me generally less strength in gold equals stronger USD, but be careful as the correlation is not exact.
