29NOV FXCM SSI - Possible EUR Reversal Eyed

FXCM positioning data shows that 53% of traders remain short the EURUSD, but
long positions have surged 37.2 percent since last week s report. The sudden
shift in crowd sentiment suggests that the EURUSD may see further correction
before resuming its uptrend, and a flip to net-long positioning would give clear
warning of potential EURUSD drops. A 13.1 percent drop in short positions since
last week confirms that the crowd is progressively becoming bullish the EURUSD a
potential warning as to the short term direction of the currency pair.

GBP/USD - Current - Net Short -1.03 Change In Open Interest -3.81%

The FXCM SSI shows similar signs for potential reversal in the GBPUSD, with only
51 percent of traders short the currency pair. This represents a 52.1 percent
weekly surge in long positions and a similarly pronounced 28.7 percent drop in
short positions. Though the headline index remains very marginally bullish for
the GBPUSD, the shift in sentiment suggests that we may see further short-term
correction before any substantive rallies. Likewise significant, a flip to SSI
net-long on the GBPUSD typically precedes sizeable declines.

USD/CHF - Current - Net Long +1.12 Change In Open Interest 13.44%

The ratio of long to short positions in the USDCHF stands at 1.15 as nearly 53%
of traders are long. Yesterday, the ratio
was at 1.48 as 60% of open positions were long. In detail, long positions are
13.1% lower than yesterday and 34.1% weaker since last
week. Short positions are 12.2% higher than yesterday and 34.5% stronger since
last week. Open interest is 2.9% weaker than
yesterday and 2.1% below its monthly average. The SSI is a contrarian indicator
and signals more USDCHF losses.

USD/JPY - Current - Net Long +1.46 Change In Open Interest 3.80%

? The ratio of long to short positions in the USDJPY stands at 1.50 as nearly
60% of traders are long. Yesterday, the ratio was at 1.56 as 61% of open
positions were long hardly a substantial change. Yet the weekly change shows
that short positions have grown 2.5 percent and long positions decreased by 12.1
percent suggesting that we could see further USDJPY short-term correction before
a resumed downtrend. Given that the SSI is a contrarian indicator, however, the
medium-term USDJPY direction may remain to the downside.

USD/CAD - Current - Net Long +1.68 Change In Open Interest 10.64%
Last Week Net Long +1.93 Signal Bearish
The ratio of long to short positions in the USDCAD stands at 1.88 as nearly 65%
of traders are long. Yesterday, the ratio was at 2.03 as 67% of open positions
were long. In detail, long positions are 4.8% lower than yesterday and 5.0%
weaker since last week. Short positions are 2.7% higher than yesterday and 0.1%
weaker since last week. Open interest is 2.3% weaker than yesterday and 9.2%
below its monthly average. The SSI is a contrarian indicator and signals more
USDCAD losses.

FOREX: Gulf Revaluation Speculation Continues San Francisco, November 29. Overnight, the UAE central bank chief denied that the country would revalue its currency. Despite this however, speculation that a currency move within the GCC will occur continues. An analyst from the National Bank of Abu Dhabi was quoted by the Arabian Business earlier today, that he sees a 10-15% revaluation soon. A poll from Reuters says analysts see the UAE likely to move first followed by Qatar with Saudi Arabia also likely to shift. The UAW Dirham rallied to its highest since 1990 earlier today on the speculation. Helping fuel the speculation is the approach of the GCC summit in Doha, Qatar on Dec 3-4 with some reports speculating that UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain will all act in unison on the currency. Analysts note that forward markets for these currencies are now pricing in appreciations as high as 2.3% over the next six months for some and for others, only minor gains of less than 1%.
However, with the market pricing in the possibility of such a move, the impact on the USD may be limited particularly if the currencies maintain the peg, and not shift to a new currency basket.

USD/JPY: Japan Recession Talk Continues San Francisco, November 29. There is little insight to be provided to USD/JPY and JPY cross price action today with the gyrations this afternoon matching the price action on US stocks. The DJIA has given up its midday gains and is now down 22 pts, which has taken USD/JPY back to 109.67. In turn, it has dragged NZD/JPY and AUD/JPY lower and with it, AUD/USD and NZD/USD. So far, the decline has remained within the parameters established earlier this morning.
In Japan, talk of a recession continues to grow after heavy demand emerged for 20-yr JGBs last night linked to fund managers fearful of a domestic recession emerging. Some of the demand however is genuinely linked to month-end duration plays. However, though Japanese corporates have done well, the rest of the economy is faltering and data due out tonight in Japan is expected to confirm that with household spending, unemployment and construction data due and all expected to be negative. Housing starts are expected to rise, but only coming off a 44% annual decline seen so far this year due to a change in house building regulations. No change in BOJ rates is seen and the deteriorating outlook for Japan"s economy is seen as a key factor helping the USD/JPY to from a base in recent trading sessions. The deteriorating outlook may be one reason behind the strong demand 120 strikes for one-year JPY puts earlier this session in sizeable amounts. USD/JPY bids remain at 109.50 with offers at 110.30.

On that note, I prefer to buy on dips.
