Consumer confidence slipped further during October as the summer's financial
turmoil coupled with a rise in borrowing costs dented people's willingness to
spend, a leading pollster found. In its monthly survey, Gfk/NOP said its
headline consumer confidence index fell to -8 from -7 in September. This was in
line with analyst expectations and is the lowest reading since March.
Most notably the survey found that consumers' willingness to make major
purchases has fallen to its lowest level since December 1995, with the sub-index
falling to -5 from -3 in September. "We suspect this to be a knock-on effect of
Christmas just being round the corner, on top of a reluctance to spend large
amounts of money at a time when higher interest rates are beginning to take
effect," said Gfk/NOP spokeswoman Rachel Joy.
However consumers' economic outlook improved slightly during October, with
the index for their assessment of the general economic situation over the next
12 months rising to -17 from -19. Consumers assessment of their personal
financial situation also improved, rising to +13 from +12.
Meanwhile consumers' perception of both the general economic and their
personal financial situation over the last 12 months both slipped slightly. The
retrospective general economic index was down to -30 from -29, and the personal
index fell to +2 from +4. The "now is a good time to save index" remained
unchanged from September at +38. The survey polled 2000 people between Oct 5 and

Where is everybody? Look, just because there is a fed statement today is no reason to go hiding in your bomb shelter, You can come out now there is no reason to be afraid.
If you are afraid then just dont trade until tomorrow
trust me it's safe to come out

Chicago PMI is better than the forecast and last one... So Dollar strength is inevitable with .25 interest rate cut later tonight.

Analysts say the dollar could gain modestly if the Fed meets expectations Wednesday with a quarter-point cut, as this might induce profit-taking on overly bought short-dollar positions, which are bets that the dollar will fall. The dollar also could advance some if the Fed were to surprise the market by leaving rates unchanged, as this would be a show of confidence by the Fed. It would also keep intact the U.S.'s current yield advantage over the euro and other currencies.
