Tehran targets Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan after U.S. strikes Iranian assets

 

1. American forces launched strikes against Iran “in response to yesterday’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter,” U.S. Central Command said.
2. President Donald Trump earlier said the U.S. would “respond” to the downing of the aircraft, which was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz.
3. Iran said it will respond to the U.S. military actions, though it hasn’t claimed responsibility for the helicopter incident.

Trump said he loves inflation. Why that should be music to Kevin Warsh’s ears

 

1. Donald Trump appears to be doing a U-turn on his treatment of the Federal Reserve chair, now that Kevin Warsh has taken over from Jerome Powell in the top job.
2. Trump’s comments Wednesday that inflation numbers are “great” fit with Warsh’s view that the Iran war is a temporary shock that will ease with time.

The president spent years railing against and trying to undermine Powell for what Trump saw as a stubborn refusal to cut interest rates faster and deeper than the Fed was willing to go. But now that Warsh has been confirmed as chair, and faces his first rate-setting Fed meeting next week, Trump is starting to send signals that he won’t object if Warsh doesn’t cut right away.
