I tend to agree, the US housing market in Sub Prime is terrible. There is a massive potential downside if the defaults hit the overall expected rate of 10%.

The retail statistics for June are a bit off but I suspect the real economy is hurting much worse

I believe 2 months of the most appalling summer weather I have ever seen will hurt farmers and the small businesses which make up the bulk of the economy. My house in the UK and everyone else's houses are not selling - there is a forest of 'for sale' signs.

These things are apparent on the street long before they hit government statistics.

So I believe the UK economy will slow but inflation can be independent of economic activity in the short term so I reckon the interest rate hike is still coming - the inflation numbers are too strong to do otherwise.

But this GBP/USD story is certainly not based on the UK economy's strength - its all about interest rates and they are going up ...
