The robust M&A inflows to the UK have been an important prop for GBP, but this support now appears to be waning. So why is GBP still well supported? This is because GBP is increasingly moving away from being an M&A type currency and shifting more into the fixed income universe. This suggests GBP is becoming less sensitive to equity market volatility and more sensitive to fixed income volatility.

While declining M&A support should be a bearish development for GBP, its rotation into the premier league of G10 high-yielding currencies has been an offsetting factor. We have looked at GBP’s performance when it has rotated in and out of the G10 carry basket in recent years. The evidence suggests that GBP is sensitive to this switching. GBP may be exposed to slowing M&A inflows, but its prominent status in the carry basket suggests its elevated level will remain until either UK rate expectations move down or the carry trade in general unwinds.
The BoE Governor King is worried about the rise of money growth and the glut of liquidity and is responding by raising rates. This is attracting money from abroad – possibly inflating the money supply – and hence the BoE raise rates. This may in some sense be an over simplification, but what we are attempting to drive home is that the carry trade is having an impact over and beyond just the currency – it could be creating a self-feeding situation.

Cable.. whats wrong with u today?? Look at ur brother euro.. he already move up 50+ pips.. and u are still below 30 pips.. just run over those bears at 160 and set urself free toward the sky..

Cable just warming up for a 100pip run ......it's been awhile since a 150-200pip run for a day has happened.........heheehe

Hmm, I don't think cable can break 2.0020 and i think cable won't have a daily range bigger than 80~100pips this week.
