maybe the commision here was just spread.
On unregulated enough broker spread may change big on news
Or maybe it was real commision all total commision pertrade you have.
I have MCmaster TE that have commision almost 1k 2.8k total which is spread (my broker setting doesnt have other commision other than spread and i do lot of mini scalping)

But on MT5 i dont have but it other broker
It doesnt show either commision on TE
So i conclude it is your broker to ask

I thought commissions were fixed amounts negotiated with your broker and dependent on the type of account you have. 39 trades for $711 suggests $18 per trade which is very expensive!

Sadly I'm stuck with this one cos it's my chosen prop firm.
My broker for my own account doesn't charge that much, for sure.

But really though, my curiosity centers around if I'm maybe overtrading or something, cos if I held just a few swing positions, yea I'd still get charged 60%, but there won't be as many occurrences of that charge, since now I go in and out scalping and stacking up commissions, as against holding fewer positions for longer.

I agree. I'd have preferred fixed and/or capped commissions, but it seems our preferences hold no relevance to prop firms.
I go in large. A lot. On a 5 lot single trade, they charge me about 31 bucks! Insane!!
