the monthly chart of the stockmarket looks not promising.

it failed to breach the old highs and turbulences on the stockmarket would have impact on the currencies and GU.

no special with last 3 weeks turmoils . ranging down continues . take care
usdx bull very healthy high tf . 3rd monthly bull candle still green with ongoing 3 weeks correction tries . this week may more green possible . lets see take care

It appears that Moty Navk and probably more are looking for the best solution for identifying price trends.
Here is another combination that I have been playing with that uses MA and various trend strength indicators. The best trend strength indicator appears to be the TDI. Pay attention to the black line for trend, the green and red lines for strength of trend on trading view and the red/green and white line on MT4.

Thanks for the input!
My reading suggests that the TDI is a combination of multiple RSI's, MA's and BB.
The black line is a MA of the RSI.
I appreciate that signals are always late but so far I haven't found a 'better way' to visualize and aid in predicting what will happen.
I do check higher timeframes and lower timeframes constantly, maybe too constantly.
In any timeframe there is always chop with the market as the algorithms that control trading mess with traders!
I am attempting to complement the MA approach with something to help me identify the strength of the move more quickly so that I don't get caught on reversals.
I find pivots and fibs unreliable.
I also noticed that a lot of these TDI indicators tend to produce slightly different results.

maybe MACD can help in final confirmation of in/out signals.

such as setting 12.100.9.

I like the MACD for trend. The settings you propose are great for trend but not necessarily catching changes in trend or strength of trend.
I used 5,10,5 in the attached colored MACD.
The two blue lines are showing the strength of the trend fairly well.
Above the center line for a long trade below for a short.

EDIT, Compared the MACD below to the RSI 14 with MA 2 and 7 of the RSI and the results are identical to the MACD chart.

You gave me an idea.
The attached is an RSI (not shown), LWMA MA 3&7 of the RSI, SMA 34 of the RSI.
It gives faster indications of the strength, chop and trend.
I am not a fan of the 1 min time frames, preferring 5, 10 or 15.

if you think, you can try the momentum indicators.

I too have found the TDI a little hard to understand completely.
With this hybrid RSI MA that I created it is a lot simpler.
I believe these are the key characteristics:
-above the center (50 line) you are in an uptrend
-black line (34 ma) shows changes in trend
-separation of the red and green line (MA 3 and 7) shows strength of move with crosses indicating changes in direction
[edit] green above red, uptrend, green below red downtrend, trend ending as green and red pinch together, possible reversal as they cross with the slope of the pair showing the strength of the move as well

I tried adding BB to it but wasn't successful in any meaningful way.

Pretty sure that I have made it easy to visualize what is happening. With the shorter MA counts you can apply it meaningfully to different time intervals.

As long as you know this (and keep it in mind) this may not be a problem, otherwise it may get you out of trades and into counter-trades too early....

the MACD as a leading indicator is not a very lucky choice, but it can be used for strengthening as part of a system.
MACD, for example, can help you choose where to put the SL.
