At 8.9% and headline CPI with ^10%, and inflation proven sticky for months.
Many reasons, inflation refuses to come down as fast as expected or come down at all.
Overall the core inflation is roughly the same - the difference in CPI seems to be food and energy
BoE is trying to keep inflation in the UK at around 2%.
The BoE measures inflation using the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
A higher-than-expected CPI reading could lead to the BoE raising interest rates, which would make the British pound (GBP) more attractive to investors.
Lower-than-expected CPI reading could lead to the BoE keeping interest rates low or increasing its bond-buying program, which would make the GBP less attractive to investors.
However, Core CPI (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 6.8% in the 12 months to April 2023, up from 6.2% in March, which is the highest rate since March 1992; the CPI goods annual rate eased from 12.8% to 10.0%, while the CPI services annual rate rose from 6.6% to 6.9%.
