There are subjective elements like, time frame, your entry and exits within a trend etc. For example if I ask if we're in an uptrend or downtrend, you have to state which time frame as it's different on each. But..yeah, trend is the backbone of a lot of strategies.
Maybe if you can be more specific what aspect your struggling with I or someone could help
Honestly though, you're asking the right question, asking how to determine the trend is something anyone new should be asking. When i started I thought I could connect two lows together with a trendline and it was sloping up, that was an uptrend (no, you've just connected two lows together with a line
)
