Looks like someone is going to start toggling the pause button again.

Until FOMC, GU will likely be stagnant and lacking in activity.
I recommend finding something to occupy yourself with during this time, but be careful not to make any preemptive or impulsive trading decisions by pressing the buy/sell button.

I often wish that trading could be as straightforward as going or just make a call "long or short" whenever the price moves in a certain direction.

Unfortunately, it's not always that simple, especially when major impact news about to release.
With a significant FOMC announcement on the horizon, market makers may try to manipulate the price to deceive retail traders into taking trades on the wrong side.

This manipulation can cause the price to move the opposite of the direction and that market makers desire to complete their scheme. It's important to be cautious and knowledgeable about placing trades and setting stops at appropriate levels.

I've seen action within a specific MM where one of their larger professional clients dumps a large amount and it temporarily skews their prices as they buffer the trade and create a mini trend they can fade against the suckers that see a candle pop and jump in for a quick scalp and suddenly the move has reversed, scalping the would be scalpers.

No manipulation in Forex? Just watch where your N3 is..........

However I would agree that such actions are rather temporary.

There have been times I've seen sudden 50 pip moves and a rather rapid return to equilibrim.
In every case I've been able to find some large trader who had bought or sold... usually a fund trader or someone who had large size.

Sometimes a hedge fund.
Sometimes I've actually seen this sort of thing tip the market in a direction and a decent intraday trend developed out of it.

Sometimes all it takes is word to get round and it is some very respected trader who has entered or exited a position, word gets around, people think he must know something, and along with their own suspicions, to trigger a chain reaction.

I agree though that Forex is a lot harder to move round than most people think except during extremely low liquidity.

Markets are waiting for FOMC minutes.

Recap on what happened last week. Two Fed members, Bullard and Mester, advocate for a 50 bps hike in Mar '23. My view is that it's unlikely. They're non-voting. We've Brianard leaving for NEC, so a vice-chair vacancy. Market consensus is Daly will replace her, also a dove. Bond markets are pricing in for a high-for-longer case, pricing out of any cut in '23. Seems reasonable.

Now, on DE10Y a +28 bps rise on the bund. Short term, through mid-Mar '23, I expect DXY to strengthen, before staging a sideway price action into May '23. Once the rate trajectory becomes clearer, we should see market pricing out of hikes, lifing the spread between equities and bonds. Now, rates aside, there's still this $95B a month QT, and we still don't know how balance sheet unwinding have on market liquidity.

Markets are wary of financial conditions getting too tight. Tightened financial conditions can be stimulating, depending on who you asked. Most likely, fund managers will agree to that. The contentious part is not whether it's been loosened or tightened. It's a question why risk assets seemed to rally lately. A misalignment. Give you an example. A $1M parked in Fed's reverse repo, well not directly, but through mutual funds or fixed income vehicles as you normally do, it's generating a 4.55% risk-free return, or $45.5k generously. That's economic stimulus! What's more to argue against, right?

I know the debt ceiling has become political, that's what caught people's attention. On US front, I'll watch these instead: drawing down on treasury's TGA, that over $2.2T into Fed's RRP, and SOFR futures and swaps.

As for Cable, I'm still holding a bearish outlook, through May '23.

Maintaining the integrity between all of the currency pairs is probably the single largest challenge in orchestrating currency moves!

I believe that there is an opportunity to make money if you can get an AI to react to the Algos that control FX, not to predict exchange rates using anything other than recognition of movement patterns in price. An updated perspective on candles so to speak!
