That's a good question. Three reasons:

1. Reopening. Japan's border reopened. Tourism and business travel resumed. Supply chain resumption. Industrial goods orders up. All these leading to demand on yen rises, hence the USD/JPY exchange rate. Japan is easily 12- to 18- month lagging Europe and North America on domestic inflation uptick. Inflation is slowing rising there, and since BOJ looks unlikely to tighten, we're looking at #2 below.

2. YCC ceiling. The 10-yr JGB had breached the yield cap, twice, and BOJ reacted by enlarging the YCC range. I expect further enlargement given their reluctance to raise rates. That should send yen into buying spree again.

3. Intervention (not strictly a factor in my bullishness). It worths noting BOJ might sound alarm if dollar/yen breaches 140. I retain my short outlook as long as this pair is trading higher than 120. We're at 130 now.

I'm currently short on USDJPY. Looking at potential dips toward 123 to 120. It may spike to 137, if dollar buying intensifies in coming weeks. That may be a short-term change in sentiment due to Fed. I'm looking at USDJPY trading much lower long term, say 98 to 110. I'm also short on GBPJPY and EURJPY. On these two pairs, reasons are pretty obvious: one as a hedge, another as a short on Sterling. Now, despite me holding a bullish yen outlook, I still would not touch JPY-crosses involving commodity currencies, like CADJPY. These are just too volatile at the moment.
