The data in 90 mins could send the cable pair down town to the 120 areas and below! It all depends on how the market folks take it. Any hint of only a 2.5 pc increase and we could see 123. Basically we are stuck in the middle could go either way

As far as US CPI is concerned, it peaked and reversed from couple of months, so expectation was "Fed will lower pace of interest rates", that was the time US index started to fall... in next meeting Fed raised 50 basic points while previously it was raisin 75 basic points and terminal rate was already priced in.

Now every CPI Red data is red for USD... Why...Bcoz usd was already priced in the terminal interest rate (already priced in) and now MM price in the expected rate decrease that will happen in future.

Money Markets price in every official news that is said by official...

Now Market Sentiment play vital role. If Market Sentiment and Trend (along with fundamentals) is Bullish as currently is.

  1. If CPI is Green (that is not expected to be) GU May come down some pips but it will immediately reverse.
  2. If CPI is Red GU will have a rally of upto 150 Pips and price will not reverse until the sentiment is changed.

The challenge with your interpretation is that it ignores how the market and the FED will react to the expected 6.5% rate of CPI. This level should be priced into the market already as it is expected. For the FED it isn't on track to 2% so interest rates will probably go up by 50bp in the Feb meeting and the market is currently expecting a 25 bp increase! This should mean a higher dollar index. This is why the actual numbers don't really matter it is how the MM's decide to move the currencies!
